I'm really lazy with looking up Boiler Room stuff (and RA podcasts, and so on) though I can remember a banging Blawan one from around the same time. Heard this a couple of times now, and it's great. Thanks!

Listening to endless Bowie at the moment, trying to get it. Have made the effort before, own about half a dozen of his 70s elpees, but never really gelled. Back again on Low, Station to Station, Diamond Dogs, Heroes, and still not really getting it. Never managed to get Miles Davis either, or Dylan.
Funnily enough, started listening to Blackstar last week before he died, and got on better with it than any of his other stuff.

^ +1 this - don't really get Bowie (have tried), Dylan (have tried). Arthur Lee and Love, another band massively rated I just don't see the appeal - Miles Davis, I've tried Bitches Brew so many times and I just end up wishing it would stop.....

Just kidding. I understand being bewildered by the the sacred cows of critical consensus.
I've been in the same boat before with Elvis, Bowie, Johnny Cash, Nick Drake, John Coltrane and even the Stones. I "got it" at some point with all of those. That now reads like a list of some of my all time favorite musicians.
I still have a massive head-scratching lack of comprehension at the adulation heaped on Nick Cave and even to a large extent Leonard Cohen (yes I get that some lyrics are great but the music is often perfunctory and often totally horrible).
The odd thing is that when I finally clicked with a lot of these long misunderstood classic acts I very often went the other way and got totally absorbed and a bit obsessed.
