I just don't get it. Other than some novelty shaped tubing, there's little or no difference between them and other quill-stemmed geared bikes, yet they seem to command the most ludicrous respect.
Drape a bit of carbon on them or some deep rims and suddenly they're "sick".

You're absolutely right, but there's no point discussing it. You just have to accept that people associate great riders with the average bikes they happen to have been paid to sit on, and Ernesto was clever enough to pick the right teams to sponsor.
