  • Ride with Chromoplastics for the first time in years. Soggy feet, mucky drive chain. Lots of crap bunching up where the stays are attached.

Are there any longer 50-55mm 700c guards, ideally with fixings on the outside...?

  • To those mounting in front of headsets, you could use the problem solvers 'sheldon nuts' to get around this, or I think Gilles Berthoud do one for non recessed bolts. Expensive though.

  • My front longboard cracked after 4 weeks usage above the mud flap. Crying every time.

  • Those GB are a really good price. What size do you usually chose for 28-30mm tyres?

  • Measure the gap between the seat stays above the tyre/below the brake bridge, fit the largest mudguard you can get in there.
    .

  • You just need to mount it as close as possible to the front wheels is all.

  • Add 10mm and you got it.

    At least 40-45mm.

GB are pretty tough mudguard, and surprisingly lighter than the SKS alternative.

Downside? Measured 14 time then cut 4 times.

  • You should've fitted it better ..

  • Dude even so they're still ridiculously short.

Only solution is those long ass flap.

  • I came here to post this, useful to have a few about

  • Cheers all.

At that price I'm tempted to pick up a cheeky pair for a non-existent future build. But actually that's probably a bit pointless.

I've always like the fact that they're really robust. I've still got an ancient battered set somewhere that must have been a good 10yrs old when I got them.

  • So annoyed they no longer do the 60mm x 26" in the "long" format. It's exactly what I need.

  • They're only cheap in certain sizes... £35 for 50mm + long :(

At that price I'd rather pay the £5 extra and order from SJS to avoid having to deal with Yodel!

  • Those Berthoud mudguards are great value. As a bonus they will also offer hours and hours of fun trying to fit them.

  • Does your bike have clearance for 50mm?

Either way, good shout, gonna get those long 50mm for the Charge Plug.

  • Yes. Possibly even the 52mm VO guards. Might need 5 minutes with a Dremel to shape them a bit near the chainstay but other than that there's plenty of room.

  • I've got some GB long 40mm and 2 leather flaps to fit tonight. 3 hours?

  • 6 hours and split it between front and back over 2 nights.

  • Fuck that. I've got ride it tomorrow.

  • I found GB's a piece of piss to fit, not sure what everyone is crying about.

  • However SKS bendy chrome plastics with the shit fittings I had to put on my Wife's bike can burn in the fires of hell.

  • What do we reckon the chances of me getting a 45mm mudguard and c.35mm tyre under a 57mm drop brake are? Anyone managed this? Frame has plenty of clearance and I'm likely swapping the crabon fork for a steel one.

  • Will 35mm SKS longboards fit over a 28c tyre? Would rather avoid big wide 45mm granny mudguards...

  • Depends on tyre + rim combo but in theory most should.
