Some airlines are still fussy and will class it as sporting equipment, even though it is no different to a standard suitcase. Only an issue at the check-in desk though so if it doesn't look like a bike bag then no-one will know.

Thanks for the advice. Going to give it a miss this time and rent instead but will bear this in mind for the future.
