• So I was started putting my new Kinesis 4S disc together at the weekend.

    Scuppered by three things:

    1. Shimano connecting pin refusing to go in (turns out I'd bought an OEM chain from Ribble which doesn't have the longer connecting pin with the chamfered edge, just a little stumpy choad to push in).
    2. No outer gear cable. I thought my RS685 kit came with them, but just came with inners and brake hose. Is Shimano SP41 the one to go for?
    3. Wrong disc rotors. Bought centerlock 140mm Avid HSX rotors but I didn't pay attention to the fact that my calipers are IS, not flatmount. So I'll need to use the adaptors supplied with the frame to fit them which means I need 160mm rotors instead. Anyone want to buy some Avid HSX centerlock rotors?

Oh and does it strike anyone else as a bit mean for a £650 frameset not to come with bolts for the bottle cage and rack braze-ons?

    • If it's OEM, it should come with a pin or a quick link.
    • RS685 kits is just the kit.
    • I wouldn't go with 140mm anyway, send it back and get the Shimano disc.

As for bolts, it varies, some come with it, some doesn't (like headset, seat clamp and seatpost).

  • It comes with a pin, but it's not the long pin with the snap off bit. It's just the little black cylindrical bit. Ribble say that's normal for OEM chains?

RS685 comes with literally everything else you need to get your brakes and gears sorted except for gear outer cable. Brifters, calipers, brake hose, brake fluid and gear inners. Should've looked more carefully when i opened the box, but never mind.

Yep, got two Ice-Tech RT86 160mm rotors on their way.

And yeah, the frame came with headset, seat clamp, caliper adapters, loads of little bits but not those four little bolts :'( What size bolts are standard for braze ons, out of interest?
