If he's off roading or going to somewhere that doesn't clear the roads then 4x4 is a great idea. If its road use only then don't bother, a little skinny-wheeled front drive hatchback on winter tyres will go places a 4x4 won't in the snow.
My sentiments too, except he wanted all the latest gadget and raised ground clearance.
Can't do anything about encouraging him in getting a normal cars, especially when there's not many choice of engine that have a 2.5ltr 200hp hybrid.
