Berlin must sees, must dos?

  • Hey guys,

Ive had a scout around on the forum and can't find anything so far so...

I've booked what will be a surprise trip to Berlin for my partners birthday, in April. While I want the trip to be spontaneous, I've never been to Berlin before. I'd love to be able to offer up some choices since we are there for four days and I plan to mock up my own little tour book to announce the gift.

Any one got any Berlin must see, must do recommendations? Whether it be touristy sightseeing stuff through to things only the locals venture. We are both 29, pretty enthusiastic and easily pleased.

I have a while yet, so will have definitely googled and researched Berlin to death by April but I'm looking for a places to start. Nothing beats the scoop from people that have experienced it themselves.

Any feedback would be hugely appreciated!

  • Stasi museum
    soviet war memorial
tresor club if you want the real berlin
berghain if you want to be a poser
kit kat Klub (leave your clothes at the door)
    kreuzberg / neukolln street markets

  • Lies

Go up the Thingsehturm, everybody loves that shit.
    Oh and the wall..

  • Flohmarkt am Mauerpark

  • Solid shouts here. Just a cautionary note, was in Berlin last Feb, dropped into Tresor (turned away from Berghain dont'cha know) and two of my mates were pickpocketed, one lad of his wallet, the other of his phone. We managed to cop the lad stroking the phone and get that back at least. Turkish immigrant if I was pushed to make a ham handed judgement call. Beautiful techno to be had all night and morning just watch out for the pickpockets.

  • I'd recommend a visit to the Stasi prison in Hohenschoenhausen, they have guides whom were themselves detained in the prison to lead some of the tours - http://en.stiftung-hsh.de/index.php

  • Bauhaus museum if that's your kinda thing. That was good.

  • @JB Bauhaus museum is a good call
Daniel Libeskind Jewish Museum is well worth a trip, really quite an experience
Peter Eisenmans Jewish Memorial (the memorial is great at sunrise, really atmospheric and less tourists)
Frank Gehrys DZ Bank and Mies Neue Nationalgalerie too

  • If you can go back in time, I'd suggest Tacheles.

  • never understand this snobbish attitude of berghain , I've been in there and wondered what all the fuss was about . i know djs who played there that were turned away . my mate was resident in the old club ostgut / panorama bar now that was something :) mind you i was younger too !
as for tresor , its dark its intense , i could well see pickpockets enjoying easy pickings, very sad that it happens and i guess your racial profiling points to immigration issues though of course germany has had turkish immigrants for 50 years or so

  • Hah, yeah. That was quite a thing

  • Burgermeister, unless you are vegetarian.
    Holocaust memorial
    East side gallery
Drinking on the tubes (I bloody loved it)
