531 Orbit Lo Pro frameset (stuck seatpost)

  • I bought this frame a couple years ago with an already stuck seatpost. Had a few feeble attempts at getting it out, gave up and its sat since.
I did look up a bit about it but couldn't find too much. Its an Orbit, a shop in Sheffield I believe, 700/700 wheels. 126 at the rear.
Other than the seatpost, its in great condition, few scratches as you'd expect with age.
The only other issue is that someone has cut down the forks steerer quite considerably so with this random parts bin headset I have on it, it barely catches the thread with the top nut, but I think a low stack headset would work.
I can't remember what I paid for it but I think around £100 is fine
Its located in Charlton but I can meet somewhere else with it in the evenings

Frame and forks only, its got some old BB in that I'll leave as I don't have a tool to remove it but its probably junk. You can have the random headset too for the sake of holding the forks on while you get it home. I'll leave the Campag Gran Sport crankset on for £15
Please take it, I need the space back

  • Duh, size.
BB to Top of ST is 58
BB to c TT is 50
    TT ctc is 54.5

  • Orbit have some pedigree. IIRC 80's time trial ace Glen Longland competed on one for some time. As for the stuck seatpost, standing it in a succession of buckets of caustic soda solution should sort that out in a week or so. GLWS.

  • quite a thick seatpost! looks like you were close though, i found that sawing two cuts a third of the posts circ apart was better than opposite each other. GLWS

  • Be careful with that stuff tho -goggles etc

  • Agree with earlier comment - Orbit were a respected producer of frames.

Yes indeedy, well said. Keep clear. It produces gas and can spit if not allowed to vent so make sure there is an opening at the other end of the tube ie frame minus bottom bracket.
