Rychtarski(?) Lo Pro Build

Posted on
  • Here is my lo pro that I'm building up, I don't know much about the frame, only that it is apparently a 90s Rychtarski and was recently restored by them. I intend to build it up as an 11 speed time trial bike, probably with 105 or ultegra, and hopefully use it in a few time trials. I don't want it to be period correct, just for it to be a fun bike to build and ride.

On a side note, the brakes, Shimano 600 AX, have too long mounting bolts and whilst it's not too much of a problem at the back it's very noticeable at the front. Has anyone had experience with them and can offer any advice? I will of course wait for further action until I've got wheels on it, as it could turn out to not be an issue.

    Thanks for looking.

  • On a side note, the brakes, Shimano 600 AX, have too long mounting bolts...

    Shorter nuts?

You may also find that they don't suit your forks: you can't adjust the angle of the pads and I couldn't use them with straight legged forks, like yours.

  • All Silver Spacefalcon! Which brakelevers are these?

  • @Scilly.Suffolk I understand how problematic the AX brakes are, but I hope I won't run into these issues! I'll post a photo of just quite how large the front bolt is, but it sticks out by a good 50mm at the back, although this could well be rectified through positioning it to correctly fit on a wheel. I would like to change the bolts, but don't know what to replace them with or if this is in fact possible.

@robman They're modolos kronos, they were a real bargain on ebay!

  • I had a similar Rychtarski. You can paint like this and use the same font, it will match what he was making at that time.

  • Two front brakes?

  • So rather neglected this thread due mainly to uni and having very little money for bike bits. Been slowly hoarding away bits and pieces for it; managed to get a 650c Corima front wheel, some new brakes and an elusive 26.8 seatpost, as well as a whole host of other bits and bobs. Will post an update tomorrow hopefully, when I have daylight.

  • Hi, are you sure the frame is a Rychtarski the rear stays look wrong to me. I have seen stays on the side of the seat clamp before but on track frames not road. I may well be wrong also the DA AX brakes came as long and short reach and can be a pain to fit.

    Andy

  • Yeah, not sure myself, because the frame as a whole doesn't look like any of the others I've seen as it's got a straight top and downtube. However, the seatstays have got this, what looks like an 'RB' stamped into them so could well be initials for 'Rychtarski Bikes'? But again, nothing I've seen has this either, so could well just be wishful thinking!

Ended up not using the Shimano brakes as the front one didn't work on the bike.

  • So here's how it's looking right now:

The rear wheel is not permanent, just a placeholder for taking the photo; if anyone has a rear disc, 8-11 speed, just lying around, get in touch! Not too sure how I feel about the saddle actually on the bike, but I'll wait until it's fully built. Thanks for looking.

  • A Raltech cover for the rear wheel is a good option: not hugely slower than a "proper" disc, but much cheaper.

If you're not going for a period look and you intend to race it, then there are better options for handlebars and levers.

Vigorelli cranks? Noice. What about the rest of the drivetrain?

I thought SMP were "challenging", but that saddle...

  • dude, your saddle is broken.

    strange looking bike.

  • Oooh, it's KB, and not RB. KB means Kondej Bogdan - the owner of Bio-Bike, located just outside of Torun, Poland. Kondej is one of the top 3 polish framebuilders, or erm... was. He's a strange dude; you can contact him via biobike@biobike.pl and MAYBE he'll tell you how to paint that frame. MAYBE. MMMMMAAYYYBBBBEEE.

So, your bike is not a Rychtarski. It's a Bio-Bike.
