  • You normally jump at the chance of spending money on new stuff!

  • It's basically £100 for the guy to do the running around/wheel removal/etc rather than me.

That to me is good value - I'll make that same offer to anyone else on here that might want to make that money?

i.e. remove my wheels, take them to Lepsons, bring them back when done and refit. You'll need to provide something for the car to stand on whilst it waits, or you could (if insured) drive the car to Lepsons (Gillingham, Kent).

  • A bit left-field, but if you wanted to run down to Rye, Rye Metal Finishers did an immaculate job on the quite heavily corroded wheels of my L200 for £200 cash and turned them round in 8 hours! These were media blasted and powder coated, I was so impressed that they're about to do a candyapple job on my winter fixed frame for £80. I know it would cost £50 in petrol, but you could have a day out and a decent meal in quaint Rye for what you save on the wheels....

  • I woke up to a completely flat tyre which was fine on the way back from work yesterday, as far as I could tell. It was still dark so I didn't get a proper look, but a leaflet from a tyre company was delivered during the day yesterday.

Is this a thing, or just a weird coincidence?

  • It's a thing. They've kidnapped your air. @Constable_Savage should be able to 'nick' them.

  • I had a 760 with porous alloys as the paint had bubbled up inside and out. My local tyre chaps took the tyres off and coated some goo inside the rims and replaced all the valves which cured the air loss. It was a freebie as we're related by marriage but it might be a cheap fix until you need to spend big.

  • What's the issue if the car sits with a flat tyre for 10 days? is it garaged or will it be at the airport?

  • That's just a nicely painted, but ultimately ruined 2002 tii - did you clock the cannon out the back end of it? jokes...

  • That and the massive tow ring on the front, ruined completely, I'm not a fan of stancing at all.

  • The sidewalls and the structure of the carcass will get damaged eventually, although I suspect it'd be OK for only 10 days.

  • Not 100% sold on the rims, bit this is fairly close to my ideal 2002:

    Minus the US spec bumpers

  • or are they US spec - not sure...

  • .

  • Look again it is not a Tii it is a Ti

  • Minilites don't suit a german car.

  • Is there anything wrong with putting Stans in car tyres to seal valve/bead leaks?

  • £75 +vat a corner to just take tyres off, blast, powder coat then reinstall tyres and balance. Last set I had done, in steel silver were £150 the set of five as they were all scuffed. That was a place near crayford.

  • Yes, if stans isn't water washable? If it is like those inflate in a can things then the inside of thetyre and rim are fill with gloop that takes a long time to clean of the rim and coats the inside of the tyre with the gloop that you can't clean off with out damaging the tyre.

Slime has been great at fixing punctures in motorbike tyres and been used till the tyre has worn through.

  • The sidewalls and the structure of the carcass will get damaged eventually, although I suspect it'd be OK for only 10 days.

I've booked the chap behind this business: http://www.exelwheels.co.uk/

Guy called Chris, thoroughly nice chap. He drives a Volvo V70, used to drive a T5.

He gave me a bit of a discount and will pop over, take my wheels off, put some spare wheels on the car whilst he refurbs mine, then return and swap them over again.

    Bosh.

  • Then you've arrived at the right answer.

Chris always used to take the wheels to Lepsons, I expect he still does, and as you've identified that's the best place to go.

He provides a good service for a fair price, it would be cheaper to go direct but you have to have the car up on bricks for a week and find a way of getting the wheels to Lepsons as they usually only collect from the trade.

  • There we go, Hefty-validation. I must go and buy a Porsche at once.

  • Got my bent, flat spotted and porous volvo comet wheels totally sorted and powder coated to a high standard for £200 total in Glasgow. Tyres back in and rebalanced to perfection, most tyre places fail at balancing

  • Borrowing the 911 again this weekend, it's been a while, feels slow after @Dammit 's Volvo #cryevrytym

  • Just watched evo's M2 video, so much lust
