Signing in from Safari

  • Suddenly (today) I'm shut out of the forum unless I sign in via Chrome or Firefox. Persona says I have to use a 'modern browser'. Not Safari. Feels a bit cheeky and high handed and pushy and arbitrary. A little notice would've been nice.

  • IOS version issue?

  • And now I'm back. Weird.

  • I had the same on work mac - no admin control and no chrome or firefox meant I got loads of work done. Annoying issue though.

  • I can't sign in on mobile safari 8.
    Not a modern browser?
I have the suggested option of chrome dolphin or opera. Really?

  • Cant sign in via safari on new ipad. Blackberry fine, usually use firefox on macbook. Any ideas?

  • Im getting: error invaliid or missing state

  • Still doesn't work on my iPhone, still get the message in @Fintan's post. @Velocio do you know this happening?

  • I didn't know it was happening.

I own no Apple hardware, and so do not have access to a Safari browser with which I could test this.

However stats show that people using Safari on Iphone are still signing in, so it must be a config thing.

The only thing that sometimes comes up is private browsing. Mozilla Persona is used for the sign-in stuff, and that requires them to set a third party cookie. If a third party cookie is being blocked by private browser in Safari or an ad-blocker, then that is the cause.

Note: Private browsing in Firefox, Chrome and Dolphin all work fine with Persona, it's just Safari that seems to be affected.

  • @Velocio yep, safari was set to private. I didn't even know it was but as soon as I noticed I switched it off and it all works fine.
    Thank you.

  • New ipad, tried safari, chrome + firefox browsers. First 2 give error message. Firefox goes through logging in process but returns back to home page at end. Tried turning on/ off all settings... not sure at a loss. Currently accessing via Blackberry.

  • Reset all settings on iPad, fixed it...

  • If anyone does figure out what setting breaks things, that would be great. At the moment I don't really know due to not owning Apple stuff, but a lot of people do use Apple stuff so it would be great if I could advise on the solution when people ask.

I know that Safari's privacy mode is too aggressive, but that's about all I know for sure.

  • It is definitely private mode on Safari on my iPhone and on my mac. Switch it on and I am logged out, switch it off and I am logged in. I put firefox on the phone and it works fine no matter what settings I use.
