  • Drop the pressure for unloaded riding, or get a lightweight 32mm tyres.

  • Yeah, I've got 55 psi front/65 rear at the moment which seems to be nice and comfy. I'm 70kg. No idea if the Hutchinson Top Slick 2 are supposed to be any good or not but they feel OK. I might invest in something better quality for the big tour. Marathon Supreme?

  • Supreme a good choice, 70kg is lightweight amongst the forum, you probably can follower but that's personal preferences.

  • C40 is nearing completion.....

Wheels are boat anchors but weight is coming in decent for a larger frame. With a bit of fetteling I hope to be down to the magic 6.8kg

  • At least, it's as fun to ride it than to see people's faces when riding it on streets..!

  • Thx! A crack appeared on my first ride, so I asked a french frame builder to check it, then he repaired the head tube. Maybe I should do a new paint job.. didn't decide yet.

    @roe Give me money..!

  • You asked me a while back about my trip in the touring thread, I did the stretch from Vancouver to Seattle and then down the coast to LA (though I went around the peninsula rather than in to Portland). I'll try and set aside half an hour to do a proper post about it back in that thread tonight! PM me or ask in the thread if you have any specific questions

  • By the bikes looks you got enough ;] You could find them reasonably cheap with enough patience but outcome would be astonishing. Nice cranks on that look as well, what tooth count that ring has?

  • Great stuff, cheers. I've got a while to think about it, so I look forward to your report and I'm sure I'll have all sorts of questions. Whilst it's early in the planning stages, I've spent a fair amount of time fiddling about on Google Maps working out hypothetical routes, daily mileage, etc. but that could all go out the window based on practical experience. :)

  • I run 26" 1.3 panaracer pasela on 80 psi which was fine in Scotland. Not the best roads.

I do however have gel inserts under the bar tape which I highly recommend as they help with road buzz :)

Bear in mind I have a sturdy 725 fork with rack bosses, not a carbon number, but for a few quid perhaps worth to put them on?

A test run is a good idea, a 30 km saddle may not be so nice after 100 km...as I found out :)

  • Myyyy solicitors are saying that they will claim for the second hand value of the bike before the accident!

Anyone know if this is the proper way or whether I can push for equvilant frame thing??

  • The insurance policy against which you are claiming will indemnify you for your losses, subject to betterment.

That's to say if it was a second-hand bike you were riding, you won't get a new one out of it.

  • First time I've looked at the Kuota since the summer. Tried a 10spd cassette on the Juna Ozzo trispoke, and it fits fine, it was a little tight to get the lockring on, but it locked down with enough turns, and enough space for the axle to clear the cassette on the bike. Maybe spacing it a little won't cause any dishing problems, but might give a little extra safe clearance, tolerances are tight at the mo. Maybe I'm just nervous after seeing oodles of space from the 7spd cassette on a 9/10spd freehub.

Big question, not sure how to phrase it or I'd use the forum search:

I thought the trispoke was out of true, because there's a bit of a wobble. Noticed as I spin the wheel on the bike that when I let it freewheel, the cassette (static) also follows the wobble, does that make sense? It's like the axle is a little bent? As if the whole wheel moves across a little from the hub.

Could there be something bent in the hub? Or is it loose parts? The wobble is consistent, always a dip in one direction at the same point of rotation (like a wheel out of true).

  • if it was a second-hand bike you were riding, you won't get a new one out of it

But he should get his old one back exactly as it was before. In your reference, betterment is a thing which the insured party can't benefit from, @timbre is under no such restriction as an injured third party. In the end, it's up to a court to determine whether whatever settlement is offered in regard to his frame is reasonable, and it's up to @timbre to instruct his solicitors to claim for what he thinks is a reasonable compensation, it's not up to the solicitor to decide what to claim, although they may advise on what is likely to be determined by the court, and if they are any good they will have a pretty good idea of what the other party's insurer will eventually offer to avoid actually going before a judge.

  • @Scilly.Suffolk @mdcc_tester

    Thanks for the info!

It's a frame that isn't made anymore which is what I worry about. It would be a shame to get 150£ compensation when getting and equivalent frame would cost much more.

  • Ignore me, I was reading an earlier question and answered yours.

  • Work in progress:

    .

  • Did this to myself:

I crashed in Epping Forrest two months ago and bend the rack bracket. I straightened it back out and carried on. A month later the bracket snaps and throws me over the handlebars. Rack is fine and I got new forks for cheap. I will remount the rack and come up with a better attachment system.

Late 2015 has been really tough on my stable. A month ago returning from a cx race a man open his car door right in front of me. Chocked that my worst nightmare has just come true, I react by being really nice about it. I spin the front wheel and as nothing seems wonky, I tell him that I am alright and that the bike is fine. It was dark and the frames is black you know... Disassembling the frame last night I realise that the frame is dead. Downtube and toptube both have kinks. I should have gotten his insurance info..

I am pretty sad about this as I made the bike myself and it is my first proper build. It also means that cx-season is over after only one race. I am contemplating swapping the headtube for a 44mm. Maybe the larger diameter is enough to save the frame. Untill that happens I am looking for a Cotic Roadrat or similar disc cx frame I can buy for peanuts.

I hope 2016 will bring better stories than this..

  • Damn, sorry to hear this :-(

  • Best websites/forums to go to for second hand bikes. bar ebay and here...Looking for a CAAD10 in a 58. 56 could work also.

  • Posting my 95% completed winter build so I actually get the damn thing done. Just awaiting a cable cutter, as my Park Tool is mashing rather than cutting. Straight outta '06.

  • Yeah I see what you mean ahah. It's going to be riser and low profil for the first build. The chainring has 49t.

  • Caad10 disc is really cheap @ Evans

  • Cheap that...Dont know bout disks on a road bike though.
