I shouldn't have used the term blown exhausts, but I couldn't think of the proper term, for performance gains (against competitor designs) from the new exhaust set ups.
However, memory did serve me correctly, in that Redbull and Ilmor did have engine discussions, possibly before getting officially involved with Renault.
Isn't Redbull using the Renault PU, with modifications, and rebadging it (as TAG Heuer PU)? And wasn't it Redbull that had employed Mario Illien as an advisor first, before showing Renault the ideas and proof of concept from Ilmor?
