  • like a big granny ring? Are they not all stuck together on xt cassettes?

  • From look of it, to run an expander I would have to buy a new cassette, buying an xt cassette and dropping a cog would be cheaper (and better?) than buying a new cassette + expander... Are they stuck together? I don't know....

  • From reading looks like the answer is no, however the 11 speed xt cassette should fit my 10 speed hub so I could potentially go 1x11 without having to buy a new free hub...

  • A guy I ride with is running an XTR 11spd cassette on his previous generation Hope Pro II Evo that was meant to be for 10spd max. The only problem is the minimal clearance between the largest cog and the spokes but it has worked fine for a year.
Chain life for off road is not good. He's gone through four chains in a year I think....

  • Here are some photos I took of a new run cut into the hillside of Pitch Hill in Surrey, the very steepest of the steepest I've seen there. Done apparently by Sam Reynolds and Olly Wilkins. It's some crazy shit. The photos don't do the trail justice in terms of its steepness and technicality.

Lead in on the top section of the trail to a gap jump which is around 15 feet. Difficult to see but the trail and the gap are right next to the side of cliff, any fuck ups and you fall off the side and tumble 40 foot down or more. The gap jump take off is flat and the lead in is sketchy.

Trail continues next to the edge of the cliff down to the tree at the bottom where you basically throw yourself and your bike over the ledge and down another cliff at freefall speed.

There are three step downs not visible in that photo that the pros basically sale over from take off and land past the log at the bottom of this photo.

  • ^^ ways not to lock your bike thread >>>>>>>

  • Any feedback on the sun race ms3 11-42 10 speed cassette?

  • Chain wear sounds like a big downside, thanks for the feedback I'm going to pursue a 1x10 setup

  • Chain wear does seem to be an issue, but other than that he seems really happy with the XTR set-up. And when you can buy a KMC 11 speed chain for around £16 it seems he's happy to replace the chains so often.
I'm sticking with a 1 x 10 for the time being as well, though sometime this year I may indeed be going for an 11 spd XTR Di2 set-up.

    Just because....

  • I'm looking into building my first mtb. Titanium would be my first choice of frame material, steel being second. However I have no knowledge of titanium manufacturers, nor much of mtb frames in general for that matter. Would you guys be able to recommend me some affordable titanium frame brands?

  • Moots.

    LULZ

Why Ti? It's nice, I have one, but the advantages over nice steel aren't great and you pay a good deal more for it.

What type of MTB are you looking to buid? XC whippet, all rounder, AM / Freeride...? Ti tends to push you towards the former or hardcore hardtails in the later.

  • Most definitely hardtail. XC and possibly longer endurance rides in quite flat terrains. Not even sure if I will find much need for suspension forks.

  • Anyone here do any of the enduro races looking to enter this year just wanted to know what im getting in for in terms of distances I will need to cover, and what sort of training i should be doing to build up? Looking at doing some of the welsh gravity enduros and southern enduro series.

  • Still need to sort out pretty much the whole drivetrain for my mtb. Does this seem like a good bargain or am I missing something? No cranks I know, but happy to keep using my LX ones and get a superstar components offset chainring for £25

The other option for the price is a new Deore 3 x 10 speed group with a single ring for trails and the triple for longer rides. Wondering whether this would be a good compromise minus the faffing of changing set-ups.

  • My fiancee has a 1x10 setup and can pretty much go anywhere with that. The triple sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

  • True that. I used to have a triple setup on my old mtb, which sadly got stolen, but never used the outer or inner plate 36t being my largest sprocket. Not quite hilly here, but I imagine with a 40t or 42t anything is possible.

  • That is fucking great.

  • Yeah that's OK. Christ.

  • Though not a great advert for a hub, he walks the bike up and doesn't pedal once on the way down.

  • BUT THE CLICKY CLICKY

  • ..and larger flanges! Hopefully no more loose spokes.

  • Might anyone be interested in relieving me of this frame/forks/seatpost/headset?

Liteville 301 mk11, small, Fox Float 34s 160mm, suspension plates for 160 and 140mm rear travel. RochShox Reverb Stealth seatpost.
Super nice bike, I just never use it.

    Around £1500...
