  • alan mtb arrived and on the firm
1" threaded steerer, may use stem ahead with extension
    pic later

  • picked up the resprayed Merckx Professional this morning:

  • Seriously beautiful bikes. I'd go French all the way.

  • Not sure if there is a thread for this, but does anyone know something about Columbus Foco tubing? I can buy a roadbike with these tubes but I read that the thickness is only 0,4mm and I weight about 95kg. Will this be a problem?

  • Sad pic.

  • What happened?

was being brakeless an issue for the insurance/police/whoever dealt with the accident?

  • i'm sure he removed the brake after the crash to inspect the forks...

tbh no-one notices, it's not important

  • Recovery vehicle pulled across to do U-turn and I went into the side of him. Happened so quickly but according to witnesses he was on his mobile, which explains why he didnt see my flashing lights.

I've approached solicitor's and it doesnt seem to be an issue, for now. From reading, apparently one brake is sufficient and the fixed cog is classed as one...

Only happened last month so will probably be a while before any conclusion is reached.

EDIT: He also drove over the bike twice after the collosion lol :(

  • Oh man...just to make sure it's dead? :/

  • the thickness is only 0,4mm and I weight about 95kg. Will this be a problem?

It may be a bit noodly if it has a 28.6 down tube with 0.4mm walls, especially if it's a large-ish road frame. Depends a bit on what your expectations are, and how you ride.

  • Cheers! Yeah I hope, it depends on what I'll find.

  • From reading, apparently one brake is sufficient and the fixed cog is classed as one...

Actually you're half right, with a fixed wheel transmission, you only need to add a front brake to make it legal.

Driver sound like a complete fuckplank, get them to pony up for a new bike but make sure not to mention the lack of front brake.

  • ITM Eclipse turned up today. Fits a treat... Deciding on Cosmics or not?

  • some projects can't wait to be finished (bit of a shitty photo, I know...)

  • If you want to go for Cosmics, go for the ones from the nineties.

  • For sure, I'm negotiating for a set as I type. They do have a certain "zing" to them.

    Lovely Merckx my the way.

  • enter code here

Sounds like a cunt and also sounds like your bike is fucked beyond making safe.

I'd quote for a custom frame at a frame builder local to you made from the same or equivalent tubing, then probably replace every part too...

  • I usually hate those bamboo bikes. But yours is growing on me. a lot. It looks jokes!

  • Slowly getting my new Planet X London Road tour-ready. Chromoplastics + home-made mud-flap, and a Blackburn EX2 rack installed in the last 24 hrs, and will shortly be picking up a pair of Ortlieb panniers.

Plan for Summer is a 3 week trip incorporating Vancouver (where my bro lives) to Portland by train via Seattle, then ride the Pacific Coast Highway to San Fran (~800 miles). But I'm completely new to touring, so also planning a one-week UK trial tour in May to work out what works, and to prove to the gf what a fantastic idea it all is...

  • Nice bikes. What happened to the headtube of the AL264 though?

  • I've yet to see a review of the London Road. What's your take Phil?

  • I've not ridden much to compare it with, but after the first 100 miles I like it. (I've not regularly used disk brakes before or ridden tyres bigger than 25c on the road...) I had a look at a few Winter/tourer possibilities and decided it was a lot of bike for the money, £800 for the SRAM Rival 11 build and I have Force on the Summer bike, so I like the set-up. Feels very solid and smooth; I'm enjoying the feel of 32c tyres, which don't seem to slow things down that much. Had considered switching to 28c for unloaded riding but I guess 32's a good choice for touring.

(PX Pro Carbon SL, medium, appearing in Classifieds soon if anyone's interested!)

  • Thanks for your help. Think I'm gonna let this one pass, I already hated how noodly my previous 531 frame was.

  • Mavic comete rear and 3g front you need for your new project!
