  • I have sent retailer details showing Garmin 810 was faulty at time of purchase but they are trying to limit my refund (current price - 20% for use) because the Garmin is was in my possession longer than 6 months.

I've argued that since it was bought prior to Oct 2015 this applies:
"Bought something prior to 1 Oct 2015? Under the Sale of Goods Act, an item still has to be fit for purpose - but you have a 'reasonable length of time' rather than the fixed 30-day period to get a full refund."

Also, since it's an intermittent issue and the device is only used intermittently itself, it's a lot harder to identify as faulty. Also made the point that it's just outside the 6 months and that the unit was in Garmin's possession for some of this time being repaired.

If anything, they should be providing me with extra money to compensate for my time and data losses.

  • Okay, I've recieved the eTrex 35 Touch that's for my dad.

First impression is positive, compared to the original eTrex, setting up is a doodle, it got an Edge-style option on the Ride selection (with the lap and play/pause button on the screen rather than on the body), this mean you can simply plug and play.

It have several option when start up, ranging from Bike, Tour Cycle, Mountain Bike, Hunt, Fish, Climb, Geocache and Hike.

Already it look like a better option than the Edge Touring if you were to use it for actual touring (as in going camping with no power plug in sight), much much better.

ANT sensor is easy to find in drop down menu.

The GPS/GLONASS is very sensitive, give you a much more accurate location, quick to find satellite (quicker in same location compare to Edge), ANT is an option (easy to find via drop down menu) as well as Bluetooth.

I've tried the usual way of pausing a ride in the Edge (pause/turn-off-then-on/start) and it work.. ish.
Wasn't very clear but when it start again, you need to go and select "Bike" all over again, it doesn't show "pause" but merely "start" which give you the illusion that you've lost your ride, however upon pressing start, it resumed what you've left off.

Not very clear, will look into it more, but so far it's extremely promising and something I would much prefer to use over my eTrex 20, especially for audaxes, have yet to try it with Garmin Connect and Strava.

Disadvantage - it's fucking massive, the screen size is the same, but the thickness is nearly twice that of the Edge, and of course the bike mount isn't the same.
