I did a lot of research on which model to get, the ultimate was meant to be the om606/463 combo but on further reading the older w460 petrol only does about 10-15mpg with a crappy 100bhp, but diesel om606 from the 463 which gets 20ish - when you put that engine in the 460 and set to 2wd (not an option on the 463) with all the electronics stripped out the mpg is way better- for the first 250miles I had just got it so thrashed it quite a lot and have been playing around to see when the turbo kicks in and how fast etc and only used 50litres which is 23mpg ish- with some sensible driving 30mpg will be achievable for sure. parts are pricey yes but because there are so few electronics I can work on it myself. For me it's the perfect blend of classic and modern driver (so far)
it's had a different gearbox for the engine but it does 70 at 3500 revs so may get a 5th gear overdrive added at a later date or change the diffs, whichever is best/cheaper
