Ah I see, hadn't considered the difference between cross and mointain bike tyres..
I'll be converting the mountain bike so seems all should be good.
Thanks for the replies!

With the MTB stuff there's a whole lot more margin for error both in set-up and use, if you know what I mean.
-
• #79
That certainly makes sense.
If all goes well with the MTB conversions, I'll do the Straggler next. I have some 42c Soma Cazadero tyres that a few folk seem to be running tubeless without issue.

Is there a tubeless ready carbon disc wheel fur road bikes?
-

reynolds assault, i have them on my synapse

Got a set hanging I my shop. Need to get more of these rim is in the new year. They work well.
Tubeless for road cross or mtb works very well. Just carry a spare tube a tyre boot just in case you hole the tyre badly. The benefit is increased grip and comfort from the lower tyre pressures that can be run. I love my tubeless setups.

I reckon I'm going for R45>HEDc2 and if they fit, these tires. 30mm is mighty big though.

Has anyone tried the bastard mutant offspring of tubed & tubeless as yet, Schwalbe Procore?
-
• #85
I ordered a set in Feb. Given up one them now as they have not been delivered.
-
• #86
If they ever do arrive let us know how they go. I'm interested in trying them sometime but I have lots of other things to spend money on first.

i have been happy with reynolds assault slg http://www.wheelies.co.uk/p81475/Reynolds-Assault-SLG-Clincher-Tubeless-Disc-Road-Wheels.aspx?sku=267745&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=AdwordsProductAds&utm_campaign=Adwords&gclid=CjwKEAiA2IO0BRDXmLndksSB0WgSJADNKqqo2pF1PalHAdsklQga90Ov-U2b_THPx6Ljlk99BaVNCRoCANTw_wcB and schwalbe pro one tyres on my synapse
i thought you were looking for carbon rims
-

it appears you can just get the rims and build them up yourself

Interesting concept. I could see it catching on in 'cross where there's the need for low pressures but also the issues of burping and damaging rims with relatively low volume tyres and narrow rims. Only (apparent) disadvantage would be the additional weight.
-
• #90
It would be interesting to see if it CXers do try them out and see what the results are but it will mean a specific road/CX Procore system for narrower rims, I think. Apparently Schwalbe says that a minimum 23mm wide internal rim diameter is needed for the Procore system to work properly in this iteration so is confined to MTB. Even a HED Belgium 25+ only has an internal width of 21mm.
It will be interesting to see if Schwalbe develop road and CX Procore.
EDIT: Plus minimum tyre width has to be 2.25, so...

And horrendous expense. But I guess it would be cheaper than cracking a rim or busting a tyre in the long run - maybe.
I wonder if some kind of foam / rubber rim strip thing could do the same job, but cost less and not be thrown away with the tyre.

Apparently some peeps have been doing ghetto Procore for some time using tubular tyres underneath regular tubeless tyres.
Have to drill an extra valve hole in the rim though. -
• #93
horrendous expense
ahh yeah. I only read the marketing spiel. 200 grams of extra rotating weight per wheel is probably enough to limit interest from anyone racing both down and up hill too.
On the topic, does anyone produce adapters for tubeless valves for offset rims?

Wait. What?! CX or MTB?
-

MTB I've read about a lot, though I think someone, somwhere, in the dark hinterlands of the net might have mentioned CX...
There are also other methods that don't use tubulars, but still for MTB:

Ah I getcha. I didn't twig that they were using a Road tub.
I imagine for those setups you don't do a whole lot of pedalling up hill?
-
• #97
Well, in the new year I'm gonna experiment with a ghetto set up so I'll let you know how it goes uphill. :-)
-
• #98
Nice. Would you need a 26" road tub?
-
• #99
I'll probably try the other method mooted on the Bike Radar forum using a 26" clincher slick tyre with a tube inside, then use a tubeless tire over that. It'll be cheaper for me than buying tubular.

Are your tyres burping often enough at low pressures to need something like Procore?
*Asking for a tall, fat bloke that's about to try tubeless....
They were not tubeless and they were cross tyres, I suspect the mountain bike tyres are completely different anyway, as Howard says, just the same tread pattern.
