Interesting that the pick of the best Stanceworks pics of the year (bar the dorifto car) don't include any of the amazing-car-ruined-by-shit-wheels/tyres-and-slamming that's the Stanceworks trademark.

Agreed.

Like the Audi that caused somebody to drop their rattle?

That looked shit though.

Stanceworks: good a taking photos, better at making good cars look wank.

Good at taking photos. Yes.
Maybe not to everyone's taste.

bought one of those for 500USD as my first car. ran as daily driver for years.
not saying they aren't cool, just saying thats unbelievably expensive.
also had a 77 242 dl which was cooler and 700 USD.

Been looking for a nasty 70s coloured 145 then put a d5252t in it, 6 speed box, locker in the rear, coil overs and decent arbs. But keep it looking fair stock, then just drive it every day.
Modern decent power diesel in a classic body the way to go for me as do huge miles.Your reflectors will be peeling. The pfv ones are OK, but some folk have got better results from getting them re plasti chromed. There's a forum group discount on volvo forum ;)
When I got my 70 it had just had (3 weeks before) £900 worth I of alternator, battery and then 2x £225 Each for genuine new headlamps. Car was £600 and nothing else really wrong with it. I use the £40 rrp Philips bulbs (very short life, maybe 400 hours quoted?) and they are great. No night driving problems

i must be missing something. how can that car be so expensive? or how was mine so cheap? ran like a top.

Almost all of the old ones have been crushed or rotted by now, those that are left are a) rare and b) getting spendy, unfortunately, and they've never been as cheap as they are in the US, likely due to sheer numbers I would think.
We (UK) never got the 242 at all, so a RHD one would be (if in good condition) pretty serious money.
I happen to like Volvo's, preferably estates and preferably with a minimum of 350 bhp, I acknowledge that my taste is not shared by everyone though.

No Variomatic? GTFO>>>

In an ideal world, where I had infinite money and time, I'd buy that 145 and then introduce it to this:

variomatic, hah hah ha, a, um, oh ;(

This is how sad I am, it has an early rad, not the rad that comes with that model. There was the 2.0glt in the MK1 and the 1.7 renault engine can be swapped for the turbo one or use the early 1.7engine fitted to the 340 (leaded head) has a different compression ratio than the later ones and is turboable just have to tap the holes for the turbo oil feed.
The de dion rear suspension doesn't need tramp bars but the weight distribution on the 1.7 was the best of the 1.4 and 2.0.

The daf variomatic gearbox was great, early cvt 'box and you can go the same speed forward as you could backwards.
-
• #25974
Compared to mine that's stock, as it were, and mines had way more maintenance/is in better condition all-round.

How long, do you think it would take, to re install an engine, gearbox and ecu in a smart car?
Be interesting to hear what the results are with the better bulbs.
