Re: rey can't be a solo.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacen_Solo
It's no longer canon. But the first order (dark empire rising) shows that they aren't afraid to use ideas from the older written sequels to 6.
Why can't they then have solo twins, one of which was hidden a'la the skywalkers?
Anywho, solid 8/10, smiles all round. Hit all of the right notes. Bummed that I have to wait God knows how long for the next one.

Fiction I've read says they had twins, it'd be a ballsy move to repeat hiding one, there doesn't seem to be any reason for it

Oh and it's only 18 months for episode 8

...and, once again, they build their quasi-nazi lair of doom with no handrails to prevent people from falling into the ginormous cavern of death.
Will these people never learn? -

Daniel Craig is the actor in the stormtrooper outfit that Rey does her first Jedi mind trick on.
Shut the front door.
EDIT: IMDb credit "Stormtrooper JB-007" LOLZ.

Or some new designs? Not even a tie-advanced? Twenty years and no-one has invented any new ships?

Meh.

Bit noisy.

Did the TIE fighters in the original three films have a rear gunner? That seemed new to me, although I admit I'm not that much of a starwars spotter.

Defence budget cuts, obvs...

I think I enjoyed that less than most, I feel that comparing it to the prequels is letting it off lightly, and think it was a real shame that they did pretty much nothing new. I really liked the intro shot of the Star Destroyer, which was a great reference to IV without being a direct copy, and some of the shots like the silhouetted Tie Fighters were great, but overall it was just a poor rehash with really bad (modern?) pacing.
Found it really hard to suspend any disbelief. At no point did it feel like anyone was in any danger, e.g. even when Kylo Ren was getting his ass kicked by Rey it was obvious that nothing would happen as he has to be around for the next film(s). The starkiller base felt like Carry on up the exhaust shaft. And as others have said the hammy dialogue in the first 3rd was pretty poor.
Sort-of sad the Han dies (?), but again it felt so forced that there was no real chance to build tension at that point?
My guess would be that we won't see much of Fin in the next film, only for him to return and save the day a-la Han Solo at the end of A New Hope.

I also think they ruined a lot of the call-backs by being really heavy handed with them, Fin finding Luke's blaster droid was great, and the chess set was okay, but most of it felt like they were a six year old who's so proud of his work that they don't let it have any subtlety, just look look look what I did

Their phasers can slice a hand off at the wrist, if one pierced your trunk your guts would be fizzing and boiling, you wouldn't stand there and look puzzled.

I'd think that being a super-heated plasma (that's also very focused) It might burn and cauterize a clean wound so quickly that most of the nerves would just switch off???
IDK really though

Yeah, it was another Star Wars, a bit better for the 30-somethings because they got to see Han and the Wookie again. Plot was weak and predictable. Oh look, Deathstar+. Oh look, another weakness we just have to bomb after disabling some shields on some small planet, just in time.
Still, entertaining, just not that special. Struggling to even remember any 'cool' scenes. I know I've watched the older ones more but still, you'd think there'd be a Sarlac pit or a Jabba character or carbonite scene or something that stuck in memory. Nope. Slightly different Vader saber is about the best of it. -

Saw it for the 2nd time earlier, got to take in more of the details like the cool bread Rey makes. Preferred it in 2D as lots of the backgrounds were out of focus in 3D

I just watched The Force Awakens for the second time and am now grappling with a massive question. What is Chewie going to do in the next film? Sit in the car and play with the buttons on the radio?!

Saw it last night. Basically a remake of the first film with some really unsubtle nudge nudge-wink winks.
That aside, I enjoyed it. Beautifully shot, too. I really liked the scene where Rey makes that instant food.
It was 2D imax, so superfuckingsharp and good sound.
always wanted a dog like that as a boy
