The Maxi Cost system uses the isofix points to secure the base depending on where you have them. My B8 has front and rear. We used pebble and pearl and now onto Rodifix which has its own integral isofix base. Yes to John Lewis steez.

Thanks everyone! All good information. I'll go and have a look in John Lewis. So many things to think about. Only 8ish weeks to go, starting to sweat a little. But definitely excited. Maxi cosi pebble looks good, hopefully it's OK to use in Aus too.
On topic, we'll need to buy a new car when we move back to Aus in May (yes, moving countries with a newborn). What's interesting, cheap, goes fast and can carry baby stuff and surfboards?

Subaru legacy (or liberty as they are known over there). 3l flat 6 or 2.5l turbo.

Scores well on everything except interesting. Every second family car is a Subaru Liberty.
Having said that, I do like the understated looks and practicality. My wife wants a Mk 1 Golf GTi, so maybe that can be the entertainment. -

Car seats forbabys....you are all DTM fucking breaders.
Now TD5 just serviced and ready to go to France to cope with the adverse weather conditions. But to make up for that I have put the silly rims off the 130. Tempted to remove a propshaft as there won't be any problems. But have fitted some nice comfy seat from a P5 to stop the girlie damaging valuable seats.

I drove an '87 Vette this morning, pretty hard through both straight and windy country roads. I expected it to ba a barge, but was surprised at how well it went. Sounded amazing, too.
Also went for a spin in my uncle's newly completed mg n-type racer, which was sublime. I'll try and upload a video

Watched it on Facebook, looks awesome.
c5 RS6 - beginning to think that this ticks the right boxes, it's an estate, it's a V8, it has over 400 horsepower, and for ~10k I can get one with around 90,000 miles, which is half what my Volvo is on.
I can find buying guides for the later V10 but not the V8 - anyone got a link?

Are you ready for servicing costs on a £60,000 car?
Just double everything you spend on the Volvo.

^What he said.
Small word of warning - oil.

However, having been in a couple of those, you'll not want to make it faster, so if you take out how much you spend a year on keeping the Volvo going/making it faster, then you're probably spending the same already.
Dibs on the Volvo. SRS DIBS. Back off all you other vultures...

If the DRC suspension on my RS4 is frail than it is downright flawed under the extra weight of the RS6. I was thinking about one of these before I went for the B7. I was only considering C5s that had already had the rear DRC replaced with coilovers.

I'd be tempted to take Dammits Volvo back to Aus if he ever sold it. Perfect Northern beaches cruiser/sleeper. Would have to strap the surfboards down tight though.
I'd be worried the RS6 would just be too numb at legal road speeds to enjoy. My brother in law has an A6 avant sport something and while it's OK as a passenger it does not feel special at all. (fully aware it's not an RS...) For such a large car though, it is jiggly in the ride department.

Just double everything you spend on the Volvo.
I spent four grand on maintaining and servicing the Volvo this year.
That is almost entirely why I am looking at getting a younger car.

Does anyone have an old head unit kicking around that they would take a few quid for? Bluetooth would be nice.

Also, the TV reception in those RS6s is dreadful.

That is modern, isn't it.
Er no sorry.

Have you seen the roadkill vid where they turn a 80s Vette into a buggy?
You know it makes sense.
Re maxi cosi: if you are using zipcar and hire cars, rather than a car you own, then do not get the base. It weighs a tonne.
I went for maxi cosi pebble, which clipped into my pushchair. Push to zip car, strap seat into the back. Only takes a second or two, once you have done it three or four times as practice.
Second baby and we now own a car, so we have the base which does make it easier to slot the seat in and out.
BTW, neither of these solutions are isofix.
I only went isofix on the upright forward facing seats for my older kid.
