Are there any recommended cheapish Windows 10 tablets out there yet?
Would love a Surface but I think it's out of my price range.

What's your price range? I have a Surface 1 and a Surface 3, and the Surface 1 could probably do with a new home. Already running Windows 10 on it.

I've tried a couple of the really cheap, sub-£100 tablets. They're a bit crap.

Just testing the market, I've got an Alienwave 13 (2015) that I'm not using anymore. Was wondering if anyone would be interested

I just picked up a new (well second-hand) laptop for my parents to replace their crappy desktop running XP.
It's got Windows 7 on it now but obviously there is the option of a free upgrade to Windows 10.
For those who've used it, is it worth it or will it just prove confusing compared to running Windows 7 given they're coming from XP?

10 is fine. Start menu is back and nothing else is so different that it'll confuse.
Certainly if they're coming from XP then it'd take no more time to get used to 10 than it would 7. -

They've given us MS Surface to use at work, and I have to say I'm immediately converted. Everything an iPad does, but better and faster, with a USB port and a real keyboard in the cover.

Surface 3 or 4?

trying to get a Surface Book out of work ..you think that would be easy, but no

Cheers. I was thinking of going straight to 10 as 7 was refusing to find any Windows updates. Seems the issue was it needed 18 hours to find 200+ updates so I may hold off for the moment, mainly as it's easier for me to troubleshoot Windows 7 problems when they inevitably phone me.

I want to replace a smashed screen on a Lenovo Lenovo flex 2-15. I have disabled the touch screen settings and functions fine (bar the spider web crack).
Am I correct in thinking that what I need is a "touch screen glass digitizer"? a la;
?
I've found some instructions and it looks easier than replacing an iPhone screen, so I think I'm capable. Alternatively if anyone knows somewhere/would do it for £30-50, then I'm open to suggestions.
Cheers.

Office. I have a desktop and a laptop. Both macs. I'd like to download Office so I can actually properly see the formatting clients use when they send me documents (Numbers fucks everything). I don't want to subscribe to ANOTHER monthly service. I had a boxed copy of 2010 version which could be used on 2 devices but apparently it's been used on older devices and fuck only knows how I unlock it (I've tried unsuccessfully). Now I'm presented with an option to spend 240 quid on 2 x single use licenses on the MS Store. Fuck those guys.
What are my options?

I got MS Prof.Plus Office 2013 under the Home Use Program (HUP) cost me £8.95
See if your company/ mates company/ anyone on the internet you know/ has access to it (alas I longer do)
Not even sure the HUP still exists...

Why doesn't Google calendars sync with outlook?

I paid about £40 for an annual 5 device licence for Office 365. Probably not what you want if you don't want to subscribe though. Personally I think it's decent value with the 1TB of cloud storage thrown in too.
They appear to have bumped up the price of the standalone versions to push people onto the subscription version. For the past few years I've just kept an eye out for cheap deals and bought them as they come up. I'm currently paid up until about Sept 2018 I think.
Otherwise, Office 2007 seems to be the easiest to "acquire" I've found.

Won't the 5 user/device Office 365 option work? Sure, it's a recurring cost, but not exorbitant.
I got an annual Office 365 Home subscription via eBay a couple of weeks ago for £30.

It would work. I just don't like subscriptions. I already have far too many of them - Adobe Creative Cloud 50pcm, Dropbox 8pcm, iCloud 3pcm, WeTransfer, Vimeo, Red Giant etc etc plus all the personal ones like netflix etc.
In the case of Office if it was 40 quid pa, fine but 80 quid a year - in 3 years that's covered purchasing two standalone editions and let's be honest, apart from some UI tweaks, how much has Word changed since 1995?

Get rid of Dropbox, replace it with 5 device Office 365 for about £50 per year with OneDrive, you're £45 up.
-

It wouldn't be 2 x £40 pa. Office 365 Home covers 5 installations across multiple users and each user would get 1TB of Onedrive storage. So my £30 subscription could work out as little as £6 per user.
