  • I was upset by the death scene but I was equally unhappy at the death of Alec Guinness in the first film....otherwise I enjoyed it...many questions to be answered in part VIII and IX!!

  • Looks like everyone is reacting the same. I read a great review that described it as "half reboot and half remake", which I think nailed it.

Fucking loved it. Finn is boss. Bb-8 rulez, and I def want a go with one of the toys if anyone has one!

  • I'm going to see it again and make my mind up.

  • Just thought of something I appreciated - before the opening roll, there wasn't a Disney title animation. With the Fox drumroll so hugely associated with the old Star Wars films, I thought it was a nice touch to not immediately jolt you out of the mood by having an unfamiliar thing before the film started. (I did the drumroll thing in my head instead)

  • So much this. Ive seen it twice already, possibly going to see it again this week.

I really enjoyed what Abrams did with it. Right mix of original trilogy and his own style. Looking forward to how the next film will develop

  • I don't think he's doing the next two. It's gonna be touch and go to get it right.

  • Think he's producing; not sure if he's working on the story again?
I reckon Rian Johnson's a good choice. Looper felt like kind of like it had an ingrained sci-fi mythology. That's the sort of feels you need for Star Wars.

  • Enjoyed it for what it was but something left me thinking I've seen this before, then someone sent me this

  • They're basically turning it into a Star Wars Universe - aping the Marvel model. Unbelievable cash cow for Disney - they're going to make half of what they paid Lucas back in the first film. We can expect a steady stream of movies from now on.

I think Abrams is overseeing the project, but other people will be directing the films. I'm not sure how I feel about all of this. The films are likely to be a bit hit and miss, but with more dice rolls, we might get some good stuff. Part of me thinks that being too precious about SW is what made the last set of films so awful (coupled with unrealistic expectations) - and it definitely seems that Abrams' fast and light hearted adventure film approach has gone some way towards this. Sure something will get lost, but then again the OG Star Wars films were pretty hopeful, loose and non-serious compared to other sci-fi of the same period.

I would like to go see again to make my mind up about it, but paying £30 to watch a film twice (without owning the content to rewatch at will) can >>>>>>>>

  • Yeah duh. It's sort of a reboot.

  • I liked it until the whiny guy from Girls turned up and whined a lot. He should have left the mask on.

  • 2D 70mm IMAX at the Science Museum was incredible. Watched it 3 times now and considering a cheeky 4th with some Vue vouchers I've got.

LOL @ whoever said Daisy Ridley is weak. GTFO.

Watching it 3 times really allowed me to get over the hype and actually watch the film, things I've noticed now:

There is decent Starkiller Base tension, I just think I couldn't feel it the first time because I was too excited.

Why does R2 only come back online when they return from Starkiller base, lots of stuff happened there, which one prompted his turning online? The obvious one is the appearance of Rey at the Rebel base. Or was it the death of Han? Was it just the fact Han faced Kylo Ren?

Luke and R2 have a history of hatching secret plans, what was the plan?

I'm wondering if Luke and Han had a plan, after Han's son turns to the Dark side and wipes out the Jedi trainees, Luke tells him he has forseen that Kylo Ren will become some powerful being, but there's a chance he will be able to turn him back to the light, but he must wait, and when the time is right, he must make that move. To me, that kind of explains why Han faces Kylo Ren so readily, but then it could have just been fatherly love, and his feeling re-ignited after seeing Leia after a long time.

Interesting tit bits I've found out, Yoda and Obi Wan (Ewan McGregor and Alec Guiness mash ups) both say things to Rey in her little acid trip, and Daniel Craig is the actor in the stormtrooper outfit that Rey does her first Jedi mind trick on.

  • I loved it. I went in with low expectations and ended up grinning the whole way through. I think the various negative comments are generally valid and of course you can pick holes everywhere and complain about ripping off A New Hope etc. etc. BUT, the success for me is that I was able to suspend all of that whilst watching and just bloody enjoy the film.

I really liked the new characters, nothing felt too awkward. Actually, the most annoying thing for me was the apparent manoeuvrability of the Millennium Falcon - since when was it that nimble?

I'm left feeling good for the next ones and I hope they just spunked all the homage stuff in this one and will develop the story and have some originality in the next ones.

Also a big shout to Screen on the Green - excellent picture and really loud, properly defined sound for the screening.

Sure you could buy it on dvd and watch it at home but is it really the same as watching on an enormous screen with top notch sound. Its not gonna be in the cinema forever, make the most of it

  • I don't think it was that good, and there will be another 4,000 star wars films over the next decade.

Also 3D is shit - they have to overexpose the crap out of the picture to make sure you can still see it through tinted glasses, and even then it ends up dull and murky, with no definition or sharpness. I had a headache for hours after seeing it. I think I would probably get better picture quality at home with a good quality copy.

  • I liked the 3D, and loved the movie. You could spend hours picking at the plot holes, but the important thing is walking away with a smile on your face feeling like you'd just watched a Star Wars movie. Remember leaving the cinema after Episode 1?

Can't imagine any kids will feel about Rey/Finn/Poe how ussuns of a certain age felt about Han/Luke/Leia, they seemed too busy acting to show any personality, but looking forward to seeing how they develop.

    totally this.

  • Smiles for miles. A lot like my bike training - loads of it is utter nonsense, but it's fun.

  • total (almost) total remake - really fucking average

  • The big baddie is Space-Gollum?
I liked the big crashed star destroyers covered in sand dunes though.

  • dug this out, must have had it 30 years, will see if still works

  • Yep, dressed up as a relative of Azog the Defiler.
Gollum was so much better than JJ Binks, Snoke is a nod to Peter Jackson.

  • BB-8 is the equivalent of JJ Binks I recon, totally unnecessary.

  • BB8 was only tolerable if you have a dog, as he plays a puppy dressed as a robot. He also sells toys to kids.

  • I'd like to see some Ewok action to be frank
