Ludders - I've put a deposit on a German bike...carbon, discs, through axles, monochrome paint, schwalbe tyres - the lot.

Great, I really like mine. Get those decals back on ASAP.

A Rose is a Rose is a Rose?

Here is an old shot of when I tried a porteur bar experiment:
It's now returned to a more classic drop bar configuration - will take new pic when there's more light.
Ludders - it's not a Rose - hate those bent seatstays I'm afraid.

Just picked up this KG 381 Team Kelme... Little bit of oxidation on the lower headtube lug but otherwise pretty tidy!
Might start a current projects thread once I've worked out what I'm doing with it...

that's a beauty! I really like the colours.

Nice. I saw you were looking for one, where did you find it in the end?

@nev cheers! I was ideally after a CA team version or the all black one but this is really growing on me - a Look has got to be yellow really hasn't it!
@epilepticfridgeboy A very nice chap from Camberwell contacted me about it on Tuesday evening having seen my wanted ad. I'm not sure what I'm going to build it with at the moment... I have a silver Sram rival group that I was going to put on something else but might borrow it to get this rolling... I'm aiming to have it finished for a ride through France next summer -

Very nice, I haven't seen a KG381 in those Kelme-alike colours, which as demonstrated earlier in this thread on KG241 can look amazeballs. Mine is the same colour but build ended up looking so much like someone else's, I'm embarrassed to post. Flattery, innit. Campag FTW, you know that.

Very nice! I'm liking the gumwalls...
I know campag is aesthetically the winner but it is pricey - I've got sram on other builds and double tap is just awesome...

Shop around. Alloy 10spd stuff can be had relatively cheaply.

Was just Veloce from Ribble, £300 IIRC. Have got some carbon Centaur which I may put on, because this bike is now such a favourite I think I'm ditching the 'race' bike. Rides very nicely for me, but I'm only a lightish rider and don't do so much mileage any more, the only thing that would improve it would be a slightly beefier front end (1 1/8" or tapered and bigger fork). Looks like the KG381 has that?

Like! Just a stem slam and rim destickering away from finished... ;)
I think the groupset looks fine, but for some unknown reason I really like Sram stuff (even though others will argue it's inferior to Shimano/Campag).
Do you not road shoe?
-
• #1692
Want: destickering
Scared: Acetone on carbon??I ride pretty much all my bikes to work depending on weather/mood/lunar phase and this involves a walk so I have the Shimano RT30 touring shoe to do all. Just like having one standard TBH. These shoes seem to cover all bases, fine in winter & summer. Might be missing out though, have tried Looks on track & did like...
Also Sram chainsets = yum. Sorry 99%, I do not get Shimano..

I think I read somewhere (Reynolds wheel care manual?) that it is recommended to clean brake tracks with acetone as it gets the yellowy Swisstop pad grime off!
EDIT: quote from Reynolds - 2. Cleaning Rims:
The rims can be cleaned with a clean rag and any mild degreaser such as Windex®, Simple Green®, or 409®. You can also
use Acetone or Isopropyl Alcohol. It is recommended to wear safety glasses and rubber gloves. Make sure your work space is
well ventilated. It is usually easiest to clean your rims when the tires have been removed. Also - 6800 Ultegra is really growing on me (Dammit's Serotta!) but I can't get on with the flappy brake levers therefore I'm limited to Di2 as the brake lever blade is in a fixed position like SRAM...
@Manc_Ronnie Yeah alloy Campag can be had cheap but SRAM red can be had cheaper and unless I find campy 11 speed I'd need new wheels so maybe in a few years!
Cheers,
Matt -

I spent ages and ages with acetone on mine trying to get the paint/printing off. Din't touch the lairy graphics, but didn't have any negative effect on the rims either.
-
• #1695
Lairy graphics printed directly on to rim? If not can't you peel the decals off or are they under lacquer? Maybe get some matte black copies made up to put over the existing logos?

What's the difference between the 381 and the 361? Might be able to pick you up a tidy 361 locally for cheap...
-
• #1698
the 361 has round tube profiles and external headset, possibly 1" forks... 381 has profiled tubes, integrated headset and 1 1/8th" forks... Perhaps someone else who has seen a 361 in the flesh may be able to offer more info but if the price is right I'd buy one!

Finally got the last finishing touches/setup on my Look finished. Just got a couple of poor snaps in garden before the heavens opened. Hoping to take her to France next year but for now the rest of the "winter" she will hibernate.

My Look KG 221 just arrived. So stoked, wanted a Look for ageeees, and this thread added to that. Chucked on the groupset and took a quick picture. Hopefully should be rideable by the weekend if all goes to plan. Cheers to @inkleined for the frame. Wanna source some decals and touch up the paint in a few parts. Excuse the shitty picture, better to come.
