Merry Christmas Zanda!

Merry Saturnalia all.
I was thinking last night was probably a better evening for a night ride than quite a few of the "official" rides we did this summer. Perhaps we should throw down a few ad-hoc, short notice, WNKRs, ThNKRs or even an old skool TNRC when the weather permits?

When the warmer weather returns and permits riding in summer gear?
Not like the sub 15C weather we have right now.

Hi! You know funnily enough you gave me one the best pieces of advice when you told me to 'start as you mean to go on' during one TNRC- obviously cycling taken a bit of a hit but I managed a quarter track season, 1/3 WNKR and some cyclocross races and Mrs YAL is nothing but supportive cause I was honest about what I wanted from the beginning and done some give and take. So cheers! (and also Merry Christmas @zanda!)

Hello!
Does anyone have the TNRC deluxe route to Bristol mapped out anywhere on the internetz?
Thanks in advance!
-
• #385
So long as it's not raining or sub zero, in!
-
• #386
I meant Bath......
Is this the same route taken? From a glance it seems like the same one we did for the deluxe, except for the start point obviously.
-
• #387
How would I know? Have never been during the day.

The Bath delux was based on Breaker's Bristol route so yes.
For the dulux we started from Farnborough. There are also a couple of variations for the last leg into Bath, the map shows the canal towpath route but you can go over Brassknocker Hill if you're feeling strong, or there is the path that uses the old railway line if you like riding through tunnels making train noises.

We took the canal path, but did also go up (then down) a massive hill beforehand. Choo choo tunnel sounds like winning tho.
Thanks!

Return trains 22.02, 22.32, last 23.02 -

Wrap up warm, it's gonna be quite chilly tonight. Should be clear tho once this rain has passed.
-
• #392
I can't do tonight unfortunately - but good luck!

Cheers, I suspected that this would not be oversubscribed. I am planning on doing a 200km ride next weekend, so need to get some longer rides in before then.
Clothing to be worm this evening: everything. -

i don't know whether you went out, but if you're training i'd recommend taking the train out and back and doing the ingatestone lap twice. this way you can get some proper uninterrupted riding in (approx 70 ish miles) rather than poodling back to london. the route isn't great there and back.

The cold headwind made the ride harder than expected and very quickly put an end to the idea of riding back. I'll keep that in mind though (laps), thanks.
Warming my feet up on the radiator in the train was lovely. It was VERY quiet though, just me and this guy:

Well done! If you plan on doing this again, I'd be interested :)
Otherwise, since the weather for tomorrow looks good, I was thinking about going to Luton to see big and small airplanes (there's a gliding club not too far from the airport). So anyone who would like to join me in that endeavour is more than welcome!
- 120km loop starting from Camden Town, ft. 1200m of D+ (map)
- departure at 8:30-ish AM so that there's ample time to stop on the way for various beers, coffees, gulp of vodka from my flask, etc.
- TNKR-like pace

Haha that pic is funny.
I've bailed once on a ride due to the bitter cold when I couldnt actually use my brakes and sat in the train toilet cubicle for the whole way back from tonbridge wells I think with my hands under the air dryer.
shame i missed this :-(
