I'm still super mega slow but I'm on 110km for December so far which I'm quite pleased with. I haven't lost any weight though because I have been eating everything in sight at all times.
Weirdly, I think I'm starting to enjoy it. I think it's because I made a Christmas running playlist.

In an effort to reduce sweaty back and tired shoulders I packed minimum (plus unnecessary drink, possibly necessary waterproof) for a work day in the waist bag and ran in as normal.
Being slightly over packed it bounced alot & rubbed my back sore (friction chafing) and bruised my hips. Had to abandon half mile from work and walk the rest.
Was going to be running part way home but now will be walking instead. It's ok for light loads but not for commute. sadface.jpg /csb

Just so you all know, cos I'm sure you gaf, I ignored everyone's advice on trail shoes and bought Salomon Speedcross 3 GTX in the end. Only been 8 miles but I like them, genuinely waterproof but not sweat boxes, light enough and very grippy indeed, even in sludgey mud. Bit harsh on tarmac but I suppose you cant have everything and only one dinky blister after the first run.
I got a fucking hideous colourway because they were £15 cheaper than all the nice colours and I'm cheap.
Looking forward to my Christmas hols in the snowy Bavarian mountains now.

Thought this thread might be a good place to ask.
At football tonight I got a really sore (dull ache but painful to push against) lower shin and felt a bit tight in the calf. Felt kind of heavy as if it was too full.
Question is I play football 4 times per week and have only had this on the pitch we played on tonight (older, hard astro not 3g rubber pellets). Could that be the reason? I've got it in a compression sock and gave it a quick ice.
Any ideas?

Sounds like you probably weren't warm enough when you started. Its just muscular so I wouldn't be worried, just stretch it out well. I sometimes get that from running in the road.

^I was wondering if this as I arrived late. Also played 11 a side yesterday and had a tightness in the back of my knee from where I took a tackle. It was that it's only happened on this surface that I wondered if the harder pitch/bit slippier would be the cause.
I've asked a couple of friends who are football physios and they said similar, probably need to stretch better.
:) thanks

Sore ankle from Monday's 5-a-side not subsided completely but it seemed to be ok on my latest 6x1km intervals. Hopefully a gentle swim this afternoon will take away the aching as I've got a HM commute scheduled for tomorrow.
[EDIT] Dunno what swimming does but it's magic. Wasn't even kicking (I had a pull buoy between my legs) but 40 minutes in cool water and 82 push offs from the wall and all the pain has gone.
Unfortunately this means I'm clear for my long run in to work tomorrow.

Yeah swimming kicks the legs into shape
How did you go on work run then? -
• #12099
Yeah swimming kicks the legs into shape
That's the point, there was no kicking, I was doing "pull" (just arms) as I had a pull buoy between my legs the entire time to stop me from kicking.
Work run surprisingly good. Treated it as a long slow run (to keep HR down) and plodded along. 2h21 for the HM (6:39/km) but HRavg was 155bpm which is way down for me (I did a HM last year and averaged 175bpm).
Also good that I get to HM distance about 1km from work, which gives me a nice 10 minute cool down walk and helps stretch things off. Ankles feel fine now, just have that general nice aching feeling all over my legs and it's a rest day with just a swim tomorrow and maybe an hour on the bike, Parkrun Saturday (will push for sub-25) and then another easy 10k Sunday.
The magic "race predictor" thing on my Forerunner 920xt is now giving me a predicted marathon time of 3h50 (assuming I carry on training properly) which I'd be more than happy with, and should be a lot easier as I get rid of 10kg I don't need.

lol, my garmin predicts a 2:43 marathon for me at the moment....!
@rhb the ox by white star running looks good in may. would need a car to get there/back though which is why i ruled it out
