  • Sweat, sweat, buckets of sweat. Winter y u no come yet?

On the bright side I've put 28 x 2.0 Shwalbe Marathon Supremes on me Cotic Escapade. Very comfy and plushy ride to work.

  • I know what you mean but it is quite emotive language especially if you have seen this video:

A universal shout of "wanker" accompanied by a slow wank gesture expresses your feelings without being sexist, racist etc etc.

  • I understand your point but it's still a bit rich bringing up the whole 'violence against women' thing when she's the one driving her car at an unprotected me after some shared name calling.

  • Singing at full pelt to The Very Best Of Meatloaf (although let's be honest, it's ALL the very best, isn't it?), watching a guy parked in a bike lane getting a ticket, sprinting and skidding over London Bridge, tanning some guy's wing mirror after he tried to force me off the road AND the weather is amazing (for December)!

    11/10, joyous.

  • Loving this anti-seasonal weather. Deepest sympathies with the full-Winter-clad riders who can't compute that it could possibly NOT be freezing at this point of the year. Also, kudos to Tfl for building in a nice skid-pan at Kennington with zero drainage feature. Half expect to see a Double decker doing a 180 at some point.

  • Tried to tell a French coach driver he was indicating left the entire way from Westminster to after Vauxhall Bridge, but he seemed to take it as me having a go at him. Wouldn't look at me, despite me pointing at his flashing indicator and the indicator light on his dashboard.

Also had a total bellend on a singlespeed with gopro on bars pulling dangerous moves and generally looking incredibly uncomfortable riding along with his saddle too high, out of the saddle holding the tops. Didn't look like a fun way to get around.

Oh and saw a massive tipper truck almost run a pedestrian crossing on red, slam the brakes on at the last second and leave massive skidmarks (for the pedestrians starting to cross I assume as well). At the next junction he then pulled left into my lane without indicating. Should've got a reg or something.

    Dogging Thread that way>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Apologies for delay in reply.
Not really sure what to write now because everything I think of sounds like a mountain out of a molehill and I can't really get past "politically correct" as a "being oppressed by the thought police" whine. I mostly hate how it's used. And mostly anyone who uses it in that way is a dick, in my book. Change it, don't change it, don't say "the politically correct made me do it". Or do, whatever. It pushes more buttons than "whore" so, I guess you win.

I didn't hate "whore". It made me wince. It's a wincey, twitchy word and I don't exactly know why - but I don't think it's entirely individual bias. Possibly it is, in which case csb. I could expand on why I think it makes me uncomfortable, but I'm not sure it's really worth being belittled/dismissed. I think "Hey, but that hippy's a cool guy, He's not a dick." but y'know? Fuck it. It's not worth it.

One thing though - you didn't say "I called her a whore" as in, you used it as a direct insult because you knew it would piss her off. You called her "some whore" for your audience, the forum. Perhaps one day "some whore" will become, in the context of the forum, the next level up in general insults from "some cunt", when that happens I expect I will wince less. Context and all.

  • too much?
    (too much)
    (grumpiness much)

  • FWIW I do understand why you winch at that word.

  • Don't get so hung up about it.

  • I'm with @edscoble - totally understand.

  • Because it's a sexist language, basically aimed at women (especially since "man-whore" is used to described the men), thus automatically associatethe term whore to women.

  • ^ tks for mansplaining scoblez

  • ^ tks for mansplaining scoblez

I think you'll find that it was scoblesplaining. An entirely different beast.

  • Tbf I did ask.
Because if Ed understands he's doing better than me. And because curious how it gets interpreted.
@edscoble - thanks (genuine). But I don't think "it's sexist language" really explains much.

... Anyway I have a feeling this derail is tiresome for most, so back to your commuting stories.
