  • Update:

I recently took a trip for a months riding in the mountains, I was pranging about this frame getting wrecked in transport so when a friend offered me a practically unused Dolan frame in my size for free it seemed like fate that the Cannondale get stripped down and put into storage till next years crit season.

    But...dat paintjob:

I did what I could with 3 half empty rattle cans - black primer, flouro yellow and clear lacquer.

Here it is mid-way through a Colorado century ride

I ummed and ahhed about how to best build the Dolan up for the trip, of course I wanted to ride as well as possible but without chewing through all my nice parts and wheels on mountain descents and in bad weather.
I wanted wide wheels because well you know so used the rear FLO and a cheap pave28/on-one front wheel front my work bike that would see most of the braking/abuse. I used the old 175mm cranks because I thought on that terrain I'd need extra leverage more than the pedal clearance/high cadence benefits of 165s.
The rest of the build kit is straight off the Cannondale aside from fresh sundries (chainrings, cassette, cables and brake blocks) meaning it rode like a brand new bike.

I'd worried that the Dolan might feel a bit pedestrian compared to the Cannondale given the differences in weight, geo (and frankly build quality) but it performed admirably and the bike will likely be staying in this guise till spring.
