Afaik they can be made from most round tubesets, they can be Reynolds, Columbus etc but you'll usually see kasei or ishiwata just because they're more readily available in Japan. I've not seen a full max NJS frame but forks are common.
I've had NJS frames in Ishiwata, kasei 4130, 8160 and Reynolds 853, my GF has one made from Columbus nemo, I have one with a minimax fork too.
In larger sizes they can be flexy, as can any type of frame, my Makino is quite flexy but my vivalo was stiff as hell. (Both around 58cm)

Impossible for you to answer yourself. Evidently not impossible to answer though by others...

All the ones in this thread are made of 'Limited Fery Good Super Steel' (LFGSS), as in the thread title.

All the answers are variations of maybe.

Your first steel bike. Does it have to be NJS? No.

Why would you discourage him getting an NJS frame if he likes them? :)

Im suggesting that a first steel bike might be something a little rattier and maybe work up to NJS. But hell - if you got the money then go for it ;)

Does anyone "need" njs? I don't actually care that much if its njs or not for me. I'm just trying to learn and understand.

They're nice frames - I particularly like them.

Does anyone "need" njs?
Everyone needs at least one NJS frame in their stable!

Changed up the nagasawa. Stuck on risers, jag, Kashimax Nagasawa and Different pedals. Loving it

And took it for a coffee to break up work today:

Free tyres is free tyres, I'd like a gp4 season on the front but will wait until all these hardshells die.

what is minimax?

Oof, that saddle is a swing and miss imo. Too fat and weird rails.
Love the colours and the rest though! Jag with risers looks sharp.

yeah. I agree partially. saddle is an odd one. very comfy though...
sorry if this is a stupid question, but a quick google isnt helping.
What are NJS frames made of? as in which particular steel quality?
I'm only just starting to recognize tubing, seems like there's some columbus max?
Are NJS frames a bit flexy in larger sizes? I'm looking into my first steel bike now I'm thoroughly bored of alu.
