  • sorry if this is a stupid question, but a quick google isnt helping.

What are NJS frames made of? as in which particular steel quality?
I'm only just starting to recognize tubing, seems like there's some columbus max?

Are NJS frames a bit flexy in larger sizes? I'm looking into my first steel bike now I'm thoroughly bored of alu.

  • All great questions, however, impossible to answer.

  • Kaisei 019
    Kaisei 022
    Kaisei 8630
    Kaisei 8630R
    Kaisei 019E
    ECO Strong Light
    Columbus Spirit Keirin
    etc.

  • Afaik they can be made from most round tubesets, they can be Reynolds, Columbus etc but you'll usually see kasei or ishiwata just because they're more readily available in Japan. I've not seen a full max NJS frame but forks are common.

I've had NJS frames in Ishiwata, kasei 4130, 8160 and Reynolds 853, my GF has one made from Columbus nemo, I have one with a minimax fork too.

In larger sizes they can be flexy, as can any type of frame, my Makino is quite flexy but my vivalo was stiff as hell. (Both around 58cm)

  • All the ones in this thread are made of 'Limited Fery Good Super Steel' (LFGSS), as in the thread title.

  • Your first steel bike. Does it have to be NJS? No.
