  • Can't remember. There's a kebab/falafel place next door, and Whole Foods Market on the other side of the road.

  • That's the one. The Freshbake Bagel. They make fantastic vegan pizza with vegan cheese.

  • Thanks! I'll go check it out.

  • Not sure yet, it's looking like around mid to end of Feb... I can come up on the train so that's no biggie, I think Boxpark is about 30 mins walk from Fen St

  • Just remembered: free recipes by veganomicon author here. And her new book 'Isa does it' is supposed to contain simple and easy to cook recipes.

I agree @Oliver Schick about not beating oneself up if going vegan doesnt go exactly to plan.

  • @dakin @PHRESHSLAYTE @anyoneelsethatsinterested

I've been veggie for 5 years now and I am also currently wanting to go full-vegan.
I have recently massively cut down on my dairy intake but I still crave eggs and yoghurt and cheese at least once a month and I eat Alpen every day.

If you feel like you're going to struggle going full-vegan right away and you're morally ok with still eating dairy products then I agree that going vegetarian is a logical step to take. Even if it's just a few weeks of intermission.

Aside from my cravings, my main pit-fall is other people cooking for me.
Most people I know are full-on meat eaters and I feel very imposing and self-entitled making demands of them when they offer to do something nice for me. Anyone got any tips on this?

Come New Year, I intend to try and go full-vegan. This will more than likely involve me being far more active in this thread, so consider this my official "hello".

  • Most people I know are full-on meat eaters and I feel very imposing and self-entitled making demands of them when they offer to do something nice for me.

Some of my friends have gone out of their way to get me vegan stuff and are sometimes the first to ask restaurant staff about vegan options or choosing a vegan restaurant in the first place. I think they like showing that they care about something that's important to me. Perhaps the people cooking for you won't think that you're being self-entitled - give them a chance!

  • Lunigiania is in Tuscany too, technically :)

    What's Castagnaccio?

  • I'm movin to Iceland in January for three months to live with very acustoming artists and vegans so will be easy for that period of time

  • Vegan BoxPark Meet up:

    1. Oliver Schick
    2. Dakin
    3. Thrasher
    4. Johnnyw

That's four. So the question is when--this Saturday? Or a lunchtime on a weekday next week? Cook Daily is not a sit-down place, is it?

  • lunch next week works for me

    Hello Samwell. :)

This isn't only about your question, but it's sort of included--FGV's opinion:

  • Time isn't something that's on my side at the moment I'm afraid, I can't do lunchtime as I'm based in Kensington, I can do after work but I'm not sure when Cook Daily closes up... I'm also busy every weekend in the run up to Xmas... obviously I'm still up for the meet, as I can count on one hand how many vegans I actually know!

  • Lunigiania is in Tuscany too, technically :)

    Doh!

If they're really your friends, they'll respect your choice and accommodate you.

  • This so much. One of my mates eats nothing but meat, yet he always has something in there for me. When we have BBQs together he gets me those small, one time BBQ from the shop and plenty of vegan stuff (mosty veggies and Sainsburys frozen goodies). It's never a problem with people that actually care.

  • Most people I know are full-on meat eaters and I feel very imposing and self-entitled making demands

Not forgetting that, people who eat meat, pay others to 'prepare animals for your plate' against their will. You have no more reason to feel imposing than they do.

  • It says last orders at 10:30pm, so we should be fine with an evening. What about Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday next week?

  • Thanks guys.

That's actually really helpful and lovely stuff.
I mean, now that I've read it, it is all so totally obvious; they already happily remove meat from the equation and have made effort to learn new veggie recipes and have veggie stuff in for me. This is pretty much the same thing, just with slightly different parameters.

    Awesome :)

P.S. I work just off Clerkenwell Rd so (timing allowing) I could also make the BoxPark lunch whenever it happens!

  • Cool, get on the list. :)

  • #butwhentho?

That depends entirely on the others telling us when they can make it. :)
