Anyone remember that photo of my F1000sl after using it for CX in Hemel Hempstead?
I'd dig it out but it's lost in ma flickrs somewhere.

Speaking of horses, I got bitten to shit by what I can only assume were horsefly* judging on the state of my legs atm DECEMBER 6TH! Stupid global warming, there's not meant to be biting this at this time of year!
*a bit googling say it was probably blackflies. My legs are so swollen and sore its crazy!
-
• #7929
i swell up hugely from blackfly bites, to the point that there is a bruise caused by the swelling which can take a couple of weeks to go
my other half is immune to them
i think it just means that you and I are oversensitive fuckers

We knew this all along James...

Make sure to bring a few sets of spare brake pads and split-pins, as well as small pair of pliers to change them.
And check your pads every lap - on a 12hr race last year my friend's pads wore all the way through the friction material, then through the backing pad, then started wearing into the pistons... you don't want to do that.
Incidentally I am wondering if it's possible to make a device, similar to a flint-catcher I suppose, that slices off excess mud before it leads to complete clogging of the chainring.

Yeah, I'm working on my spares setup, as we're doing it as a quad it will only be around 6 hours each!

Can someone clear something up for me? If I want to use a clutch type derailleur, I should be looking for dyna-sys stuff right? (10 speed)
-
• #7934
Shadow + is what you want.
All the ten speed stuff is dynasys IIRC, clutched or not.
-
• #7935
Nice one! Now, anyone selling a 2 or 3 x 10 drivetrain and shifters or know of any exceptional offers?
-
• #7936
have 2x brand new xt shifters, 10 speed, they only attach to shimano brake levers though ... what brake levers do you have ?
XT I-Spec B (direct mount to Shimano compatable disc brakes)
from here ... this groupset might be worth a though
i picked it up myself but have avid levers / bb7's disc's hence they were surplus to requirements

plus a front xt 2x mech, brand new braze on mount
-
• #7940
not always, xt m786, deore m615, slx m675 are all options worth looking at though.
On a side note -
Before I go to classifieds, any interest in a 20' 45650b, black and blue, comes with a black hope headset, thomson seatpost, and hope seatclamp, after £165
(note: the derailleur hanger was bent so was professionally heated up and then bent straight again, no problems with shifting now but there is paint loss to the dropout)Optional extras include:
Sram bottom bracket and X1 crankset with 32t absolouteblack direct mount chainring +£70
Hope 50mm stem, in royal blue to go all matchy match +£35

AdH has some good riding. The bits of the Mega course I rode seemed a lot of fun too.

I have an XT 10-speed shifter and front mech (and cable and outer), ready to bolt on, surplus to requirements. I don't want the Earth for them.

Ibis Cycles Instagram vid of Thick and Creamy on Pitch Hill, Surrey:

No edits of Thick & Creamy ever seem to show the top section which is the trickiest, in my opinion. I guess coz it's not such a looker for promo vids.

Rear shock mounting help required!
I have recieved my lovely Commencal Meta SL frame. I have the correct length DT Swiss X313 shock waiting for it at my parents in the.
Yeah!
Except it appears the shock might not be compatible. The Meta frame uses 10mm mounting bolts, and the shock has eyelet bearings with a 10mm internal diameter. So theres no room to install a bushing/spacer to snug Things up. Sounds to me like these two Things arent compatitble.
I seem to be ballsing up this build from all angles.
-
• #7948
The real question here is why would you buy a DT shock.
-
• #7949
I read some great reviews, and it was bloody cheap.
But mainly because I wanted a match for a DT XMM twin shot fork.
DT Swiss got back to me. Its a no go. Think I'm going to sack off the DT Swiss idea, and just get an X-fusion shock and fork.
Anyone want a new 7.5"/2" (190mm/51mm) DT Swiss X313 shock (Remote Version, without Remote). Think I paid £130 for it.

I'm looking for a front light setup for my brother. Ideally a bar my mounted as he already has a head torch setup.
Looking to spend less than £100. Hit me with your wisdom oh LFGSS.
I find the forest is actually OK. It's either very watery with good support below or it's just deep mulch. It's the bits on the way back in to town that get destroyed by the horses that look like potential bike killers. I don't ride there.
