Yes - Cinelli only didn't cut them because the hacksaw was not invented in Italy until 1985.
Cut them off, loose the factory brake holes and have personalised and devalued items - not a good plan. -

I'm seeing some tunnel vision but do as you like :) It's a beautiful bike.

Do as you please with the bars. LA84's arent exaclty the most rare of the bars. I myself cut my 3ttt moscow takhion pursuit bars shorter to look nicer on my rossin pursuit and those bars are in different pricepoint entirely ;). I think that uncut LA84 look just so long and massive.

Quite simply LA84's are made to be cut or not depending on the individual's proportions and riding position - if fashion and hacksawing is important to some then that is their business but I am certain Monoglaze builds bikes to ride as well as own - In my experience if something works well it usually looks right .

When he rides it, he'll find out why they should be cut :-) They provide too much leverage on the stem clamp if you lean on the full length, so the bars rotate in the clamp the first time you go over a little bump in the road. If his fit demands that much reach, he needs a longer frame.

- Cinelli designed them to be used like that with cable holes pre-drilled near ends.
- If you put so much weight on your bars that you need to shorten them to reduce leverage your whole position is probably odd.
- These bars are only marginally longer than some other types they just look longer because of shape.
- Bars will not move if fitted without grease , to correct stem and tightened to recommended torque.
- The hand position is not necessarily right at end of bars.
- Cinelli know how to design stuff .

It's clear that I made a terrible blunder 25 years ago when I bought LA84s and had my lo pro built to fit me based on cutting them down. That I've survived the resulting carnage on a bike I've been racing on and off for a quarter of a century is a miracle. I plan to race it again on Boxing day, and I'd be delighted to see this Rossin on the start line too so that I can learn from the master. I'll even ask our TT secretary to look the other way if you want to use your funny front wheel :-)

With these bars you should always hold on the flat position and usually it is adjusted to be in level with the ground. Different riders prefers different position ofcourse. The ends should only be cut the amount that gives nice position for the brake lever to be pulled. So the last bit is pretty much there to give room for adjusting the brake lever. Find out a nice spot for that and then cut the extras. If you like braking like that then it is fine but it just looks that the brake lever is a bit far from the middle flat space of the bar where you are supposed to have your arms. Whatever works fot you ofcourse!

As you probably see, the brake levers on mavic bars are about 1 inch forward -> less brake lever for your fingers in proper riding position

Why did you make a terrible blunder ?- I presume you chose to cut them because that suited you .
What carnage did you survive? Didn't you suggest longer was more prone to slipping ergo cut down would be safer?

Why should you always hold in a position that bends the wrists down - surely the best position is in a neutral and natural wrist position ? Maybe Moser and Fignon and Bugno and ...well just about every pro rider would have held done better with your advice if only it had been available to them and their coaches and held on to the flat part of their pursuit bars.

You give me more credit than I deserve, I was being sarcastic (the lowest form of wit)

Would this be the 3"section you would like to remove
Hell no, that's the wrist rest, the best feature of the LA84

Petty bitching
Maybe you don't understand how an internet forum works. The people reading it now represent a small proportion of the total long term readership. You give your view, I give mine, and we let strangers from the future make up their own minds about who to follow.
destroying what was once a great forum
Get over yourself, you've been here half as long as I have and I know I missed out on being one of the glorious few who made this forum great by at least a few years.
