I would definitely try with a new chainring and your existing mech before worrying about a clutch mech.
I've been running 1 x for a few weeks now with an old campag chainring and an old mtb mech and haven't had any issues with chain drop, I reckon a narrow wide and standard mech is gonna be good enough, you can always change the mech out if you have issues (which i doubt you will)
