Should I bin off Dropbox for iCloud Drive?
http://www.drop-dropbox.com makes a good case.
People who are more cleverer than me - what are your thoughts? -

Well I wouldn't assume iCloud is any better.
I use Bittorrent Sync so my stuff doesn't really live in the cloud, but I have it in multiple places

Different people different politics.
I need cloud storage for my back up solution - onsite and offsite. I've had all my drives stolen before, lost everything.

Lil help for a stupid, plz. I have an iMac (personal) and a Macbook (work's). They have different user accounts. I have a backup drive for each. I now want to copy everything from one external drive onto the other.
I thought it would be a case of just dragging everything over and letting it copy, but I keep getting "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access (X, Y, Z)". I have set permissions on both drives to 'read & write' and also clicked 'ignore ownership of this volume' but no dice. Do I need to enable/ disable permissions elsewhere?

superduper?

YES M8! Threw £25 at the problem. That shit will fix your permissions and then copy your files exactly the way you want them. This only reinforces my motto: don't think, spend.
Fanks.

So my 13" 2010 Macbook pro is kinda fucked, its done me well tho but just canny handle big video projects/photo shit and some big design stuff any more... So Im thinking about getting a new one.
Im looking at a top of the range 15" either the 512GB or 1TB one. Has anyone got the top 15" model how they finding it in the real world, I've played with the 15" instore but its the bottom one and there isn't really any real world stuff i can try on it to see how it handle shit!
Any help would be great. Thanks guys

got the top specs 2015 Pro 15inch with 500GB, it handles video fine, not the fastest as expected but it's fine. Just done a 8 mins edit last week and rendering / exporting times were reasonable.
Funny it struggles to deal with Lightroom, but that's a problem with the programme as I have not actually seen a laptop of any kind that doesn't struggle with the last couple of verions of Lightroom.
I have also done a fair amount of Photoshop on it, didn't really have any real urge or need to take out the hammer so that's a good sign.

ah fair enough... I also have google drive, and box (work) for throw away stuff (my personal stuff is encrypted and backed up at Crashplan).
honestly, they are all kinda the same. One telling thing dropbox + google drive are not accepted for use at any of the companies I've worked at due to legal words in the EULAs. Box generally seems to be the default for companies.

Does the Eurostar website work for people using Safari? I can't get it to load train times.

So now I have no landline internet at my home, I'm reliant on my mobile 4G hotspot to watch films/tv on my ipad. Does anyone know of a good way I can download a film at my office, put it on a usb key, then link that to my ipad and watch it from that?
-
• #8891
Seems like there are a few wireless portable hard drives that might be suitable, or lighting to usb keys that will work. Anyone had any experience with them?
-
• #8892
Do you take your iPad to/from work? The VLC iPad app lets you transfer files to the app via a web browser on your computer.

Sugru is the biz, we're used it on everything from the dishwasher to my saddle to a jacket to cables.
-
• #8894
Really? That would make life very easy.
-
• #8895
Yes, but you need to be connected to the same wi-fi network so wouldn't you be easier just downloading straight to the ipad.?

Can I use one of these ~£30 ebay Apple TVs (3rd gen?) with a mini-jack to phono lead to stream music from Apple Music on my iMac/iPhone to one of my proper hi-fi's phono input, all nicely controlled through the iPhone?
-
• #8897
Yes. Also; i has Apple TV for sellz if you're interested...
-
• #8898
Obvs Sandancer has first dibs but I would be interested...

Anyone got a cosmetically excellent reasonably not-old macbook air going?
-
• #8900
I have been thinking I don't actually need 2 Macs... so I might want to sell my 3 months old early 2015 11-in, but it won't be dirt cheap...
WTF COMMON APPLE? STEVE JOB WOULD NEVER AGREE ON THIS BS DESIGN!
