Drop the pressure + increase tyres size.

Would not have even considered this, thanks. I use 23c, will try going up.

Hutchison Sector. 700 miles on mixed surface (tarmac, gravel, forest paths...) so far and not one flat.

I have the Continental Grand Prix race 28mm that come with the bike. After 1000s of miles in all kind of terrain they look like new, only one big puncture with a metal chunk. I normally ride things to destruction and then upgrade but these ones are bulletproof

Not sure I follow what you're getting at in the last sentence?

If you have been riding predominately with 38mm tyres, going to 28mm will feel very small in comparison.

Ah gotcha. I have several bikes - trying to decide on new tyres for 3.
Road- has been 23, I'm considering 25
Commute- has been 28, will stay 28. Has been paselas, might get new paselas but open to alternative ideas.
Winter road/ tour: has 38mm paselas which feel overkill. Considering 32mm but not sure what to go for. -

That make sense as they're nearly 800g each.**Something like a Marathon Supreme maybe? you can get the 35mm that's a reasonable 440g, or even the bigger 40mm one at 490g*.
The Supreme roll very well with ample grip, the Paselas are great tyres but the thread pattern make it felt a little squrimy at times.
For a lighter tyres, amey mentioned the Kojak which is 330g for the 35mm, very slick tyres with thin sidewall that helped with the comfort.
@amey would like the 650b Supreme in 50mm (as well as 42mm).
*the 40mm is my recommendation as it offer both higher resistant to puncture (bigger = lower pressure = less likely to get cut up), lighter and feel a lots faster than the 38mm Pasela.
**Scratch that, misread the information, Pasela are 440-490g in the 37mm size.

Let me know how you get on with them.

Cheers, all interesting stuff.
Kojak sounds good. I must admit I was expecting you to recommend a compass in 700x32/34...
Not sure there's much point in moving away from paselas for tyres around 37mm, until the pair I have are worn out!
I would still be interested in hearing real world measurements of open paves w.r.t the road bike.

While my only comparisons are only to maxxiss larsen mimo cx 32c, the Rivendell jack brown (green) 33,3c is very comfortable and feels fast.

Of course I recommend the Compass 38mm, the Extralight model is 360g alone, but I'm aware not everyone want to spend that much money on tyres unless they genuinely want the best.

Will Hutchinson sector tyres be more resilient than schwalbe ones?
-
• #2296
Good point. My shortlist of tyres in this category (700x32) is currently:
Rivendell Jack Brown
Panaracer Paselas
Challenge Strada Bianca
Compass Stampede Pass
Grand Bois CypresNot sure on the availability of the last 2.

Cool, what if I were to be looking for a narrower tire? (I am)
They're only a fiver more than folding bead paselas.

Don't forget the Compass Bon Jon.
The Paselas and Jack Brown as a little heavier duty than the rest on your list.
I order directly from Compass, but Velo Vitality sell them

Yup that's where I have been looking :)
