(and @KT_Bee ) try and get referred to the Royal Brompton if poss. Think it's the UK centre for respiratory issues (?), my dad was sent there after getting appalling service from his GP out in the sticks, and they are very good

Thanks. I'll see what happens with the x-rays.
I hold most GPs in low regard after previous failures so I tend to seek out private treatment if I have the slightest doubts about their conclusions.
