  • There is no specific pin in a C9 chain - any pin will do. As noted above, if you want to rejoin the chain at the same point, drive the pin out so that the tip of the pin "just" hangs onto the inner link and bend the chain gently away from the side that you have pushed the pin out towards to release the chain. That way, it's a lot easier to line up when you come to refit. It's an idea to use a bent spoke or similar to hold the ends of the chain together when trying to rejoin it ... easier to line the rivet up, if you want to do it whilst the chain is fully threaded through both derailleurs and tensioned - easier still to do it if you drop it off the inside chainring whilst you are working ...
