  • Yes, send me a pm.

  • Argh. Won't let me post picture. Won't let me delete post. -_-

    • AARGH. Won't ket me upload picture -_- relatively cheap londinium lever for sale. Will try again later!
  • Any other supermarket available beans as good as Union?

  • I like sainsbury Kenyan or Tanzanian

  • I tried the peaberry but couldn't get a shot out of it for love nor money with my Gaggia

  • ah, i only use them for filter.

  • I use Sainsbury's Tanzanian all the time with my Gaggia Classic. It's good.

  • I just checked and that is the Peaberry of which you speak.

I grind 18g as fine as my cheap and cheerful grinder will do. Pulls a fine double shot.

  • Right - decided to dip a toe into the world of home coffee roasting and brewing.
Currently use Pact and decided that being the student I am to save money, I'd also like to learn about roasting and stuff. Currently got aeropress + metal filters. A ROK grinder is also on its way, fingers crossed Santa thinks I've been a good boy.

Looked into using the popcorn popper method, but figured a tall pan would work just as well (?) .. as most people have through the centuries??

Coffeebeanshop looking great for getting hands on green beans, around £10/kilo depending on different origins etc. - anyone used them?

  • Went down two clicks finer from my normal grind with Union beans on my mini Porlex and was still getting rusty water. Might try again even finer

  • Edit.

I'm going to stop reading the internet and just buy a sodding eureka.

  • Union coffees all on offer in Waitrose £3.65 a bag or so

  • @skinny I've had the Eureka 65 for a while now. As Steve mentioned I wasn't that impressed with the dosing consistency [grind is fine]. My observations

    • it takes a while for the burrs to bed in
    • Clean the burrs every 2 to 3 months [dead easy job]
    • I have a make up brush just to sweep grinds off the machine etc. After every grind I rattle the handle of the make up brush up the chute to displace any loose grinds ready for the next grind

I'm getting a difference in dosage of about 0.2 to 0.3 grams now which I think is perfectly acceptable

  • That sounds pretty good. Do you use the timer function? Is that the inconsistency you referred to?

    Would you recommend it then?

  • Can there be such a thing as a pump that sometimes works?

Yes. A pump with air bubbles in it.

  • The compak k10 has been a revelation. Much more consistent grind and no clumping. We are using it on demand, so first grind of the day is 2-4g of beans just to clear any retention.

Shots of coffee are so much more reliable and the extraction is coming through really well on the naked portafilter. The one we got had been fully modded,Mitch clean sweep doser, a wider exit from the burs to reduce clumping etc.

Can't wait for the new coffee machine.

  • @skinny yup. when I first got it you'd get different doses on the same timer setting - it's settled down now as per my post [I still weigh every one though 'cos I'm a sad git] - They're at a really good price on the Bella Barista site at the mo

  • £607 for both at myespresso. So going to put my order in.

    Thanks.

  • Porlex grinder - Where's the best place to grab one in Central or East London?

  • if it's not for a gift and for yourself i never use mine. the top hexagonal thingy the handle attaches to is a little bit roughed up but all in working order, was only ever lightly used. yours for a tenner?

could do pick up from shoreditch/moorgate area after work tomorrow

  • Thanks for the offer, it's for xmas for my gf so I'll spring for a new one. I treat her well. haha.

  • If it's not for travelling, i find the hario skerton much better (better arm interface)
