Cheers everyone re: the disc brakes. He's cleaned the rotors to a little improvement. I suggested new pads too.
-

Disc pads really soak up shit, without proper cleaning or new pads they'll not be better for long.

Actually yeah, four days is too short, I'd agree. Especially if those include your travel days.
I had five full days here excluding travel days and I wouldn't have wanted much shorter, although being super unfit I needed a rest day!
Maybe go somewhere in the UK that would be better for riding, but then if the weather's shit you're probably going to get bored...

What's the gold standard technique for cleaning pads?

Bin them and fit new ones

New ones indeed. Although if you really need to then sandpaper and isopropyl can improve things, as can fire, but new ones are better.

You can get cheaper by not having spare sealant for future use.

As has already been said, new ones. But otherwise, heat them in the oven until they're very hot, and then use a oxyacetylene torch or blowtorch to heat them up even more, then let them cool. That should burn off any contamination. But given the faff, new ones are generally a better option.

OT question. I picked up a pair of Leak Sandwich speakers in a charity shop. They have an amazing sound. But I'm trying to find a system to connect the speaker cable/wire to the simple screw at the back of the speaker - I'm losing half my wire when I screw it down. Is there a connector anywhere that has a wire clamp and round metal washer like on a battery terminal? Cheers. Links appreciated.

You want an eyelet, there are many kinds, either crimp-on or solder fitting. Start your exploration here:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-insulated-crimp-terminals-eyelet-red-32mm-jh67xYou can get eyelets with screw cable clamps, but soldered is best as mechanical clamps tend to corrode and/or loosen by creeping, degrading your connection.

I cracked a rim on my maverick Kysruim's yesterday. does anyone know if I'd be able to lace the hubs to a set of 60mm Chinese carbon clincher rims?

maverick Kysruim
You'll probably struggle to find spokes which fit the Ksyrium hub apart from the original ones. Mind you, if your Ksyriums are maverick, maybe they have gone their own way with hub dimensions and all bets are off.

Perfect - fountain of knowledge as ever. Cheers.

Maverick ha.
thanks for the reply, I thought as much.

@mdcc_tester I'm sure you're like totes interested but blowing 300s after coming in from today's audax. After a hot, steamy shower (ooh nurse) it went up to 400s with less coughing and spluttering. That's trying to blow in the non-cheaty way.

Well, the air is obviously hard to move today, I could only just manage 600 when I got off the rollers :-)
You really need a baseline measure using the same device and technique, the absolute number is relevant but the diagnosis of asthma comes from a marked change caused by one of your triggers, in your case exercising in cold air.

And now a question from me: chain ring bolts recommendations? I'm looking at getting a p2m but debating whether to really get the additional praxis bolts. @mdcc_tester any torx recommendations or stick with hex/allen?

You really need to look at the nuts, there's no point having Torx screws if you still have crappy slotted nuts. Truvativ steel ones with hex both sides are good, if you are a weight weenie then POP do aluminium ones with Torx both sides

I hate slotted nuts.

Yeah, I'll try and see a GP soon.
Yay, another medical issue.
-
• #72724
Yeah, My XT crank came with these, a shame I need bolts for a 5 bolt pattern. Or maybe I should buy 2 sets and keep 3 spare? The POP ones look good though for true weeniesm. Cheers @mdcc_tester and @svendhöek

What happened with @ColnagoDaft ? Some kind of weird meltdown?
@edscoble sold me a wheel with a hope (how are they called again from around four years ago?) camagnolo freehub. This would def. take a 11 speed cassette? He forgot when I asked.
