Smart trainers: Common Projects etc sit here - but M&S have a really nice similar pair for £85
Smart/Casual shoes: Grenson, Mark McNairy - generally something with a chunkier sole to avoid the dreaded Jeans and Sheux look.
Casual Shoes: Clarks Wallabees or Desert Boots fit this bill pretty nicely
Boots: A chukka boot, chelsea boot or moc toe can look good with Jean/Chinos.
The smart but not super smart shoe is also down quite a bit to how your wear them

Asides from the summer, I aways think brown leather boots of some description are a safe and easy bet.
You can also try using contrasting laces - nothing too extreme though.
Oh and DMs seem to be back. Actually they are probably the most comfortable leather shoe you can buy.
