This. Google Drive does most of that but it's clunky and unreliable. Dropbox I find even worse. We have an existing 36TB G-Speed raid unit which I want people to access at the same time. Editors will be simultaneously using it as a media drive while working on different timelines. At the moment it's linked via thunderbolt but not ideal as it doesn't allow for out for remote use.
Ta for the info about render farms @Dramatic_Hammer though I wonder how up to date that is given the last update was 2010. As it happens I did some more research and apparently Premiere Pro doesn't have that functionality so the render farm needs are off for now.
Never use Dropbox instead of a server. Good idea in principle but the worst idea in the world in practice. I know you were not suggesting doing so.
Maybe an old mac pro could be a good server solution?
