  • sounds amazing

  • you might be able to sneak in an extra 100mm on the ridgebeam. depends on how lenient the building control is but i've seen people flagrantly taking advantage of that.

  • Isn't that a bit of a risk though - Can't they make you undo it?

  • just put some bales of hay around it.

  • I saw that... much lol.

  • Can anyone recommend a tiler that will work in SE London?

  • Tiling is easy. I learned how from YouTube. The secret is to get the wall nice and level first.

  • I'm still out of action and can't recommend anyone in SE. Some people have a natural talent for tiling, others find it very difficult. To me it seems like one of the easier jobs but I've done a lot of it and it can get complicated.

What kind of tiles and how much in sq. metres are you looking to get done. I know BQ is being encouraging and it's good advice if you're just doing three rows of square tiles above your basin or countertops. If you're wanting a complete bathroom of paper backed mosaics then you won't want to start your tiling career with that job.

  • @Airhead, I'd like to the tile the walls as close to this as possible, so floor to ceiling (ceiling height is only 2100 mind).

I want to do a dark grey grout which means if i do it, it'll be really obvious the tiles are on the piss.

    Room is about 3m x 2m.

  • Yes. Don't do that sort of stuff yourself as a first go. A tile that's half a mm off square in any direction will ruin the rest of your life. Every morning you will look at it and regret not paying for a pro.

The work in that pic is a proper, proper job. Except whoever fitted the shower screen has almost fucked the whole thing up by not quite lining it up with the grout.

Even so, 9.9/10 would bang the tiler.

  • @hoops it's fucking horrifying outside, I just lit the fire - house is warming up nicely, cats are lying in front of it, massive winner.

  • Don't do that sort of stuff yourself as a first go

I tiled a bathroom floor to ceiling with 100mm x 100mm tiles first go.

The difference between my tiling, and that of a pro, is that mine probably took five times as long, probably has a little more attention to detail, and I'm not sure that a pro would have been on the phone to my father quite so much.

    Never again though.

  • The work in that pic is a proper, proper job.

It looks like a computer render to me...

Either way, the tiling below the vanity unit doesn't line through with the rest of the tiling.

  • Especially your father.

edit: yours as opposed to theirs rather than the implication that something is inherently wrong with yours.

  • I agree with @Prole. - it's a visualisation. You can tell because it looks dead and flat, and the towel and stool are doing their best trompe l'oeil impression.

  • @hoefla @diable that is definitely a render, check the plants.

  • Wood burner arrives today...

  • Still waiting for my friggin' contract to turn up, would have thought solicitor would send it special as they made a mistake but no seems it's in the snail mail.

  • House and contents insurance - are there any pitfalls or is it OK to just go with the cheapest I can find. Given that the difference between two quotes can be 400% and thousands of pounds!

  • Ha, I have had this image on my Pintrest "bathroom plans" board for a while... I plan to do half of my bathroom myself and get someone who knows what they are doing do the tough stuff. Finding decent black fittings has been my biggest struggle..

  • Also just treated myself to one of these...

  • @chrisbmx116 hi mate! Hope you're good. Don't IKEA do black fittings? I know they do for their kitchen stuff, which is also on my to do list....!! This house owning stuff is expensive.

  • 'Ello! Not too bad cheers! Yourself? I think Ikea only do white fittings (and chrome)... the taps I like the look of for the bathroom are 2k which is crazy talk and not going to happen.
Save money on the kitchen by doing bits yourself, tiles, ripping out, cabinet building, all easy jobs. Worktops appliances are where real skill/tools/experience is needed. The chap (he's on here but I wont link him in) who did my worktop had a real challenge, my walls are all over the shop, but he cut and trimmed until it all lined up perfectly...

  • Following some searching, I am still looking for a cleaner in SE23 - anyone know someone? @BRM kindly replied previously but the cleaner wasn't able to help. Any recommendations would be great.

  • I did.
