  • All those menacingly stick-thin long distance runners getting their heckles up must be putting the shits right up the management...

  • I spent half a day with some American athletes and another morning with the Kenyan long distance runners during London 2012. The Americans literally had an underground car park full of the latest high tech training and testing equipment, the Kenyans had a small room with a massage table and some oil. I didn't get to look in their respective fridges.

I'm not sure what the point I'm trying to make is but the difference did strike me as interesting at the time.

  • Perhaps the point you're trying to make is there's no substitute for training and raw talent, isn't it the same in cycling now, the bloke who turns up on the club run with the 6k Pinarello or Colnago, gets dropped on the first hill, or gives you a "whose this twat" stare because you turn up on a winter bike with 'guards, believe you me we've a few in the club I ride for, one bloke earlier this year turned up on his 5k Wilier, looked at me like I was a piece of shit, I never said anything to him when I caught him for 21 minutes in our club 25 at Easter. I rest my case.

  • I caught him for 21 minutes in our club 25 at Easter

I hope you were on your Pake, just to rub it in

  • Hi mate, no on the Colnago, before it got smashed on F11/10.

  • No-one half competent dopes in-competition in athletics anyway

  • Coe Again !

Don't we have a thread for people who manage to be crooked without chemical assistance?

  • Welsh TV doc on doping in rugby, and Welsh doping in particular

  • Hi rugby, welcome to the cycling and athletics party

  • Hi rugby, welcome to the cycling and athletics party

when will you be bringing football along?

  • Nike severing ties with coe !! A week is a long time in politics.

  • Nike severing ties with coe

Everybody else is reporting it the other way around, what do you know?

  • without

How sure are we of that though...

  • Maybe there's more money in being open to all the athletic brands rather than being tied to Nike.

  • A few Russian sacrificial bans http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/two-itera-katusha-riders-banned-for-anti-doping-violations/

A one year ban at an age when you can still train in isolation and return with many legacy gains is not a bad trade.

  • How many Kenyan runners banned today?

  • IAAF and UK Antidoping clearing Radcliffe http://gu.com/p/4eth8?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

  • "Dick Pound says second part of Wada doping report will be more explosive"

  • Report looking into corruption at IAAF. You think there'll be Radcliffe link?

  • Parisotto responds to IAAF statement, advises them to shut up and wait for the WADA report above

  • In the article they say,

there are clearly plausible explanations for the values in her profile

It doesn't sound as confident as saying we believe Paula's explanations are the reasons for the unusual values
Are they saying they've decided their is no case to answer on just the 3 sets of data that were brought up or are they saying they've gone on to review all of the other data they have and there's no case to answer?

  • Are they saying they've decided their is no case to answer on just the 3 sets of data that were brought up or are they saying they've gone on to review all of the other data they have and there's no case to answer?

They're saying that at this time the last thing they need is for one of their marquee athletes from the home nation of their president to become the poster girl for the blood manipulation which seems to have been the hallmark of elite endurance runners for the past decade or more. It's easy to throw a few Russians under the bus, since Russia is a notorious kleptocracy from top to bottom, so nobody is that surprised that Russian sport has integrated the national culture of 'everything is for sale'. If Paula is busted, they have to admit that it's not just in bad countries that bad things happen.
