True. From what I can tell they achieve the weight but using an old skool rim width and lowish spoke count, which does make me wonder if they would survive riders over 80kg (me). For example the pretty bomb-proof fulcrum Quattro wheelset has roughly the same profile and price, but weighs 1725g (240g more)
Ultimately is can save 300g by drinking less beers. However I cannot afford to replace my training wheels every 3 months!

Spokes look like lasers. I'd avoid, either get something with proper bladed spokes or something heavier.

The Quattro LG is deeper and wider than the Cosine wheels, but they are weighed on Italian scales so the difference is probably more than 300g even though Wiggle probably understate the true weight too. Nonetheless, Campag have been in the factory built wheel business for over a quarter of a century, so if they think a budget mid-depth road wheelset should weigh 1.8kg, I'd be wary of newcomers who think they can lose 20% of that.

Agreed, My Shim RS21s were 1800g and pretty bomb-proof.
While I'm on this thread... does anyone have any experience/opinion regarding Tune hubs?

Expensive, light but pretty robust in my experience.

Any thoughts on those Reynolds up thread? Was originally thinking of lightweight alloys as do it all wheels but those look like a good price. Think they are the 2012 model... Would be ok for my normal riding (summer Surrey posing on my carbon bike vs the winter steed) but would likely revert to my fulcrum lgs for the annual Alpine trip with their Alu brake track.
Good deal or old tech? Aim for alloys instead? £800 would be my absolute max budget.
Struggling with pre-buyers remorse and/or missing out on a good deal emotions. Any thoughts welcome!

Anybody got any thoughts on - or experience of - Hunt wheels.
These in particular at the price and weight look attractive http://www.huntbikewheels.com/collections/road-rim-brake-wheels/products/hunt-race-season-aero-road-wheelset-1420g-28deep-22wide
Live in Hong Kong so light wheels are a major plus and Hunt ship worldwide for free.
Bike is in for a service so I'll ask the shop what they can build for me at a similar weight/price when I pick it up.
Seem to have been well reviewed though.

I've not bought some yet, but plan on getting a pair in the spring. They look good value for the price and ideal for the type of riding I do.

I don't really understand the deal with tubeless.
Bit of sealant in there and they just hold?
When do you put the sealant in? At what point during inflation does the seal form.
I'm suspicious of new things, particularly when it comes to the thing that's holding me on the road.

Very interesting. The Four Season looks an even better deal. If you ride in rain go brass.

Tubeless can definitely work very well if you ride a lot.
-
• #5941
I only use tubeless for cross, the lack of choice and cost for road tubeless has put me off so far.
You put the sealant in either before you inflate the tyre, or once you've got a seal on the rim after inflating the tyre, but that depends on the tyre.

Everything 25% off at Superstar, the Arc31s are probably worth a punt!
-
• #5943
Not really a punt. They are very good. 24mm wide, 'aero', 1605g (with tape) and built well.
-
• #5944
If one was after a mid depth, max 23mm wide, full carbon clincher for one's vanity bike, as cheaply as possible without the constant fear of imminent failure and instant death, is there a better option out there than these?

Actually, just noticied the width...my frame may not clear them.

what weight limit on those Superstar Arc31s? also is it possible to de-sticker rims?
-
• #5947
in lieu of the clique ignoring you, they look like a good price for a v nice wheelset, and you already know they are 2012 models - buy!
