  • Pompino owners,

I'm after some cheap forks that have mudguard eyelets. These seem like a great deal:

Only thing is they appear to not be drilled at the crown. I need to mount a dynamo light and a mudguard there.
Are they drilled from the back only?
Could I drill it out (without having to use a pillar drill)? I only ask as some forks are reinforced here.

Trying to figure out if I could use a star fangled nut on the bottom of the steerer and some odd bracket arrangement if not.

  • They´re pre-drilled from the back, no reinforcement, easy job.

  • Cool. That sorts it then.

    Thanks.

  • Best mudguards for a v4?

  • sks bluemels matt black 45mm, imho
    pricier options might be shinier

  • X-post to Gangsta thread

  • Much wow
More info? Is it really a pomp? Forks?

  • Updated the pomp and ditched the drops for a riser bar and a new fork - the Columbus Tusk Trekking - which look a hundred times better than the stock forks and the rake and length are exactly the same so no fucking about needed with my mudguards or anything.

Also got a bit pissed off with the cantilevers so swapping over to Avid single digit 7's at the weekend which also gives me a good excuse to stick a Minoura porteur rack on the front.

Then I might also get around to putting a photo or two up.

  • I'm really happy with mine. Did Incredibly Cross and a few Epping rides and the setup is great. I do see what people mean about how tall those Kinesis CX forks are though. Great for rolling through the forest but you really have to throw your weight around to navigate tight turns etc. I have a track fork I'll probably use when it gets nicer in the spring and go full mudguards and 28s, that will make extra nippy. Here's a pic of it in the wild. Epping Forest stole my heart and my anodising:

  • I think the standard Pompino fork rides best. Just has no clearance. I have a WoundUp on mine with an A2C very close to the original fork.

  • I actually have the old Kaffenback fork on mine. For simple commuting I just can't bring myself to spend more on a fork than the frame cost.

  • Thanks, lovely one

  • Winter ready

  • Really? Just about to buy one for my everyday and hoping to get 28s and proper 'guards =/

  • I mean for CX. You should easily get 32s and proper guards in there, and I think the V4 has more clearance than the V2 and V3s I've owned.

  • 28s fine, 32s fine, got 32s and full guards on my V4

  • Cool. Thought as much.

  • You can fit CX comp 35's and 45mm bluemels on v3. As you can see on mine.

  • I've got 35mm Pasela's + guards on my v3.

  • Proper pic of my V2. For dabbling in CX over winter, but mainly for Paris-Roubaix 2016.

  • Well nice. Is that L or XL? Also what bars, cranks and wheels? 42 on the front?

  • Cheers, XL (from @skinny ). 3T Ergonova 40cm, Alfine cranks. Front wheel is a DT R23, rear is a DT R460/Novatec track, not strictly matching but pretty close. 30c Michelin Mud IIs, but they're more like 33+ on the wide rims.

42x20 which fine for general cross, got a 39t for when things get muddy. WI freewheel.

  • i just made this for really muddy cross races. rides nice. don't know about the looks.
