I know you said it didn't work for you but Moto Migrate worked fine for me. I was dreading going what you are going through as that was my experience last time. IIrc I used sms backup plus but did it in batches of 500 and that seemed to stop any weirdness happening, that was for about 5k texts though and took a while, 18k might be too much.

Couple of questions:
What do people recommend for transferring text messages from one phone to another. Titanium backup does it but seems to sort them into a weird order, SMS backup & restore sometimes works, sometimes misses SMSs, sometimes duplicates them. SMS Backup + seemed to assign strange senders to some of the texts (the sender & receiver get concatenated).
Any other suggestions? I have about 18,000 texts which could be part of the issue.
Also, I'm missing the flashing LED from my old phone which indicates texts, missed calls, etc. Any alternatives to get some kind of similar functionality? I tried NoLED but I had trouble getting off the lockscreen with it. Something of that nature would be good though.
