  • Yeah, there's a list with part numbers, you'd need the "10mm bolt in" that matches the hub, probably set you back £20 or so.

  • The next few commutes will be well documented anyway. (College project)

  • Using this conversion kit from hope I think:
Bought it second hand a while ago, but ended up buying a new pro 2 for my new build cause it's gonna be 11spd.

  • finally got a mud plugger again

rock lobster finished and riding beautifully

  • Fork's too long, but feels more or less rideable.

Yet top tube looks almost perfectly horizontal. Should it be sloping down normally? Or is it from having long fork but smaller diameter wheel?

    Also, dynamo but no light?

  • The top tube is not level with that fork and wheel. I'd guess the ST/HT angles are now around 70 degrees. But this is just temporary*, I didn't fancy riding Kojaks on ice and I had the front wheel built and that fork had (almost) enough steerer left.

The front wheel's actually going on my 26er Cotic Simple, which will be getting dynamo lights.

    * also for fun

  • I've only lived here for a few months so probably not. Do you play polo?

  • I've been playing around with tyre sizings and I want to be able to run with with big off road tyres so probably not.

  • I see. Hope you like it here. No polo for me. Actually as I'm graduating as architect this winter there's no nothing for me at all atm.

  • Updating the beater with some new old parts.

Q: I have a Shimano 600 hub with a 7-speed Shimano cassette on, the one where the small ring is the lock ring. Will the same hub also accept a 6 speed cassette? Will I need a spacer? Will it fit 8, or is that for 130mm-spaced frames?

Also, if I'm replacing the cassette, chain, and chainrings, should I also replace the rear mech's jockey wheels?

6-speed Uniglide cassette will fit, 8-speed won't. No extra spacers required, the 7-speed was a narrower spacing to fit 7 sprockets in the space previously occupied by 6.

You don't need to replace jockey wheels unless they are severely shagged out, somewhat worn jockey wheels won't have a negative impact on the new chain in the way that worn sprockets and chainrings will.

  • I'm as happy as a pig in shit, it's great!

Good luck graduating, maybe I'll see you around.

  • Brilliant, thanks. Was searching for a 7 for ages, and the 6 is much more widely available.

That makes sense, 6 was around for longer, 7 was quickly superseded by 8/130mm

  • Found this gt fork and fits great.

  • looks fun, but how do you get the chain slack right?

    Magnets Magic

  • Sounds great!

Thanks. Shout if you see a distressed guy on a green rawland.

  • Recently acquired something practical for winter riding and commuting - Planet X 'London Road'. I've lowered the stem (think I need a longer one too), put my Arione on there and have some chromoplastics to fit. It's quite heavy and sluggish, but once it's going it floats along - it's particularly comfortable in the drops.

It was supposed to arrive with a Zefal Raider rack, but that appears to be OOS. Tempted to cancel that and order a Tortec Velocity, which is a bit more discreet. Think I'll get Ortlieb Back Roller City panniers to load it.
