Winter gloves

Aldi fishing gloves (£4.99) combined with pound shop (£1.00 for 2 pairs)thin woollen(synthetic) type gloves excellent for a total of £6.00. Totally waterproof, windproof and very warm.

The tips on forefinger and thumbs on the Aldi gloves fold back and secured by Velcro and combined with pound shop gloves with the touch screen friendly patch ("2.00 for 2 pairs) mean you don,t have to take gloves off to use your phone.

Excellent cheap alternative for the budget minded!

Right, I've tried everything to keep my hands warm over winter and nothing has worked so far. Silk liners with merino over the top, then a windstopper ones. Still cold. The missus is getting me a pair of lobsters for Xmas so we'll see how that goes, but in the meantime I'm trying more cheap and cheerful options, £6 outdoor labourers gloves:

£100! err, no. But on a functional note I have tried riding in similar Shell/primaloft snowboard gloves and apart from being too cumbersome and hot the primaloft moves around under the shell. It feels like your trying to hang on to greased up bars. not nice on fast descents or rutted roads.

Castelli neoprene gloves are excellent, they're even steamy when you take them off.

I use standard defeet gloves in my pogies at - 5C.

Thats only because I take my hands out to do stuff, and uncovered they'd freeze.

Bet bare hands would be fine.

I've found mine no good below 3 or 4 degrees. Do you wear liners?

I know it's a fair while since you bought these, but after a couple of 5.30am starts in that cold snap there I fancy grabbing a pair of these - how did you find the sizing, size up, down, normal?

No, have never used liners. I do tend to run quite warm when riding.

Sealskinz extra cold winter gloves work well for me...and I get cold fingers really fast. They can be hard bargainy online.

Only caveat is that they're a bit paddy, so you don't feel STI levers are directly as with thin gloves.

Failing all that, stoke a nice warm fire in a BBQ box on your front rack ;)

I ordered as per the size guide which put me on a medium, which turned out spot on I would say.

Just ordered a pair of Craft Lobsters, a review I just read on always riding:

Tried bare hands on the way home. Hands were okay after 15-20 minutes, but from the off my fingers were completely numb. I believe this was the fault of the brake levers. I need some narrow neoprene sleeve for the bare metal levers. Or a supplier of carbon lever blades for Hope lever assemblies.

I've long been after something like this. You used to get them on old BMX levers (when I were a lad) but I can't find them anywhere now. Only thing I've been thinking of doing is ghetto taping an old inner tube around a lever for a layer of protection.

They do need to be large enough so that your fingers don't press on the fabric constantly - i.e. your fingertips pressing on the ends of the dual-fingers, or the cold will transmit straight across.

Immediately after i snipped the tag off my new pair, it occurred to me that i might have achieved the same effect with the old pair by not pulling them on fully...

For anyone thinking of buying these Craft Split Finger gloves from wheelies.co.uk (one of the cheapest prices atm, as far as i know), bear in mind that the L-XL is actually labelled L on the gloves and the XL-XXL is actually labelled XL.

I've always just bought whatever was on sale, usually an obscure brand from Planet X or Amazon.. my current ones are Biemme ones although they're now sold out.. Now that it's just beginning to get a little bit too nippy for short fingered gloves, I've moved onto long fingered ones this week - my faithful pair of Sealskinz.

Found that my hands were massively overheating though. Does anyone have any recommendations for thin long fingered gloves? Just need some that will take the chill off things, and prevent my thumbs from freezing, without overheating the rest of my hands.

Certainly won't overheat in a pair of those.

They were still fine for me today, and it was pretty bloody cold, are good when it's not quite so cold too.
