  • Pop by somewhere like Popup Bikes, buy a coffee, and ask if they have any scrap rear MTB wheels lying around. Take a couple of cone spanners with you to remove the axle, and put some change in the cat jar.

  • Will anywhere in Manchester have spares for sks mudguards? I'm looking for the plastic stay caps

  • Not sure, but if there's been a part failure, SKS are good at sending spares.
Email (and tell them about your summer!).
They sent me a new complete set of Raceblade Long guards after they snapped, even though it was my fault for a slightly dodgy install (rear stays positioned too far from brake bridge).
N.B. I assume volume of returns are why they stopped making that product.

  • these? http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-chromo-eye-bolts-caps-pack-of-8-prod23286/

dunno about in manchester but I ordered some spares from here and they were delivered pretty swiftly.

  • That's the ones. If there's nowhere local I'll order them. It's no rush but I'd have liked to have had them for the weekend!
My idea is to trim the top off the ones that I have, so I can measure exactly how long I want the stays to be, then cut the stays, then put the new intact ones on.

  • Why not fit the stays without the caps, measure, cut then put them together with the caps?

    Easier and less wasteful...

  • Last time I tried that I got frustrated and ended up fitting a set with the ends clipped off and the ends of the stays exposed in rage and they tore my legs to bits. You're right though, I'll try with an added dose of patience

  • I reckon a lot of the frustration last time came from using a bad hacksaw to cut the stays, without a workbench to clamp to. Gonna get a cheap rotary tool for this

  • @alialias
I've got these which you're welcome to have. Trafford/Hulme area mostly.

Wheels: Kinesis MaxLight 29er Tubeless Ready - will include all axle through bolt/qr adapters (RRP £399.99)
Groupset: Shimano Zee 10spd Shifter & Rear Mech (1x10 setup RRP £90)
    Cranks: SRAM X9 (RRP £229.99)
Chainring: Raceface Narrow Wide 32T Spiderless Cainring (RRP £54.95)
Cassette & Chain: Shimano XT, 11-36 Cassette (RRP £68.98)
Brakeset: Hope Stealth Race Evo X2 (RRP £320)
Rotors: Front - Hope Black Floating Saw 160, Rear - 140 (RRP £60)
Finishing Kit: Thomson Layback 31.6x410 seatpost, Thomson X4 100x10deg stem, Raceface 710mm XC bars, Time ATAC Z Platform/Clipless pedals (RRP £190)
    Saddle: not included.
Tyres: MAXXIS Ardent 29x2.25 Rear, 29x2.4 Front (RRP £80)

Il throw in 2 brand new Specislized 29er innertubes, tubeless valves, a brand new bottle of stans notubes fluid and a brand new specialized 25g gas canister/applicator/tyre lever toolkit, 3 spare pairs of bars, 3 extra chainrings and a Maxxis Aspen tyre.

That's about £2000 worth of gear - even if you take about £500 off the RRP's to account for currently discounted/sale prices you're still taking about £1500 of bike, which is a rough OTP price for much lesser spec'd options.

There are a handful of tiny chips to the frame, a few bits of laquer peel / chips on the carbon fork, a bit of plastic missing off the Zee shifter and some small marks to the rims; very minor aesthetic things which go hand in hand with MTB.

The cassette, chain, chainring, seatpost, stem, bars, grips, rotors, cables and bottom bracket have about 100km use and as such all perform as new.

I’ve ridden this bike on the road, on trails and in some seriously deep mud and it performs excellently all round. It’s low 10kg weight makes it great for climbing and very easy to throw around trails and hop over high obstacles, let the tyres down to 15 – 25 psi and it’ll float through the deepest bog with ease, at 35psi it’ll handle excellently on slippy trails and provide a good few cm of travel through the tyres to soak up all but the most brutal lumps/roots etc, at 40+ psi it fly’s on dry ground and light XC trails.
Whenever and however its ridden its handling, speed and liveliness always puts a smile on your face!

Most of the components need no introduction, and many reviews can be found on the Frame, Forks, Wheels, all of which are highly complimentary.

Any questions, discussion about collection, costs, condition etc please pop me a PM and il reply promptly!

Im after £650 ONO for the full bike and everything listed above
